probably buying 2013 f30 335i

Hey guys,
Coming form the N54 world! Crazy I know.
So I'm looking at this 2013 f30 335i stick with 69k on it.
Mineral grey
Coral red
Lighting package
M-sport package
Cold weather package
Tech package
BMW assist package
Premium package

Basically everything except Parking assist and HK.
I found that bimmer tech sells a rear camera retrofit so that solves reversing, even though I shouldn't have problems with that. (currently drive an crew cab f250)

Just wondering what you think I should look for around 70k
Has new tires, and plugs
new fluids in all diffs, trans.

1. I'm thinking maybe oil filter gasket, and brakes?
2. Do you think 15.5k is a good price?

Edit -- nevermind, the one you found has a red interior.

That's a fantastic price, I think -- as long as the car checks out. Make sure you inspect closely, or have a pro do a PPI.

Hello!

Not sure if you'll be into modifying the car, but if so, you want the electronic waste-gate. Some older models come with a pneumatic waste-gate, which doesn't make as much power as the electronic version.

If you're not going to tune the vehicle for more performance, than you can totally ignore this comment.

Valve Cover Gasket and Oil Pan Gasket as usual they can start leaking.. Has Water Pump been replaced? Getting in that mile range.. of course Maint history … it will probably need coils ($150 a set - Recommend FCP Euro guys are great) and plugs ($120 a set) Be prepared to replace charge pipe, of course full fluid change is probably in order.. Good Luck let us know!

Yeah was looking into that a little bit. Seems the EWG makes 20hp over the PWG on every tune.
I do play on tuning it some but not as much as what I did to my N54 cars. Im starting to realize how nice it is to have a quite car that only opens up when you get on it. God I sound old....

15.5k sounds like a great price with the maintenance. These cars don't really have any big ticket issues, at least not at that mileage. They run really smooth and make great torque, and don't have any NVH in stock form. If a PPI checks out that would be a great buy.

I hear that. 20hp isn't much and can be added elsewhere. I think that the PWG has a smaller DP too.

If you get the PWG and want to go the Dinan route, you could find one for a great deal since the used PWG Dinan market is scarce.

I love this engine. It feels great and runs so smoothly, even with another 75hp added.

This was my list from buying my '14 (car specific):

- Oil filter housing gasket
- Valve cover gasket
- Oil pan gasket
- Diff mount (check for cracks)
- Shifter / 1->2 smoothness
- Clutch engagement (grab/hold @ high RPM)
- Door actuators
- Car health (check via idrive)

Plus, when I inspect a car, I'm looking for:

- Any other leaks, any fluid whatsoever
- Wet carpet, pull sill covers and look for rust in floorpan (or evidence of submersion)
- AC and heat work
- Suspension rebound (push the corners down)
- All buttons/features/lights work
- Pull codes
- Look at tire life and wear pattern
- Look for rubber in wheel wells
- Look at mounting bolts for fenders, front clip to look for repray/overspray and damage
- Rust (a problem with northern cars)
- Count dings/dents (for PDR or bodywork)
- Wheel rash / tire damage
- Undercarriage rash / front clip damage/rash
- Oil cap test (condensate/smell)
- Brake pad thickness F/R
- Inspect for nonstandard wires in engine compartment/fuse panel

All of that just gives you an idea of what you're working with. A PPI should cover nearly all of that, if you're not mechanically inclined. Most PPI's will allow you to speak with your inspector prior and after.

Good luck!

Car doesn't have an accident but I will look closely for any orange peal I usually have a good eye for that.

Thanks for the list. I'll definitely look closely at the oil filter housing gasket and valve cover.
And will test the clutch. Said it was never tuned but I will look closely at the DME and see if it looks like it had a jb4.

Honestly can't wait to get an n55.

With the PWG do they have rattle like the n54?

I have a 2013 335i and my valve cover gasket blew at 40k and now at 50k my oil filter gasket looks like it is on its way out.

My issues began shortly after turning up the boost.

Can you elaborate on the boost? What did you install? A piggyback tune?
