iTunes Library via USB--How to export Playlists for iDrive?

For those of you using a USB drive to play music in your BMW:

How do you/have you successfully exported your iTunes Playlists to be accessible in iDrive?

I've got my music showing up and working, and I exported some playlists to the main directory from iTunes. However, they don't show up on iDrive.

Thanks.

I have never been able to get playlists to work in idrive. Only from an ipod or iPhone. Hopefully someone else has a suggestion.

My iPod touch is NOT working well with our 2019 X5. Neither is my iPhone, for that matter.

You can't browse music like you used to be able to, and it keeps turning repeat on for no reason by itself.

Also, no more regular USB in the armrest. Only USB-C. The iPod Touch will only charge. The regular USB is in the front next to the wireless charger, so the device and wire are visible, which I'm not crazy about.

I was worried about this observation as I keep an iPod hardwired in the car for convenience and audio quality. I import all of my music lossless, and wanted to continue doing so in the future especially with the Bowers and Wilkins system on my order.

I just went to the dealer and tried both an iPod Touch and Classic using the USB-C in the center console (with an adapter), and both worked fine. I was able to see my entire library and play music without an issue.

What adaptor did you use for USB-C? I have an Apple lightning to USB-C cable and all that did was charge my iPod Touch and my iPhone. No data seemed to be transmitted. I’d much rather be able to plug in in there than where it is visible.

Also, what iOS version on the iPod touch?

Thanks.

The iPod version is 11.4. I should have probably updated before trying it, but it worked as is. I used a lighting cable with this adapter:

I was going to try the Apple USB C to Lighting cable too, but since everything was working (Both Classic and Touch), I didn't. As a side note, the owners manual says that port should charge and transit data.

Thanks, Baca.

I think the limitation is that the iOS devices will only charge lightening to USB-C. I ordered this adaptor to give it a shot.

Is your cable an official one by Apple or MiFi certified (I think)?

I've learned the hard way that certain cables are only for charging and transfer no data; think using with a public USB port in the airport.

I have an overpriced Apple lighting to USB-C and it works.

What I hate is defaulting to Bluetooth audio for music even when plugged in. The BT does sound better in the newer X5 than my old 2017, but music over USB has much less compression.

Mine is an Apple cable. Does not work. Only charges. Same both with my iPhone and the iPod Touch. I wonder if there’s an issue with my USB-C port in there?

Ok, I just went out to the car and plugged in the iPod Touch via USB-C again. The first time it said "USB Device Not Supported" on the iDrive screen. I tried a couple more times and it connected. I get music playback, but still do not have the full functionality of being able to scroll through music with the steering wheel wheel or iDrive. Is that working for you, Baca?

It basically works the same as when I have it connected via regular USB. This is better, at least, than having the cord and device in the try in front.

I put all my music on a thumb drive, which works perfectly and even shows album artwork in the HUD. However, as noted in my original post here, no Playlists.

Yes, it was scrolling through, searching the library, and showing artwork.

Weird. NONE of my iOS devices will do that. My old iPod Classic will, but it keeps going into repeat.

I wonder if you have a later software version? When did you get your car?

Mine is on order, week 49. I swung by the dealer yesterday to try this out as I was concerned about it not working. Not sure the build date on the one I tried.

Thanks for the suggestion on the adapter. It's even a lighting deal right now with Amazon Black Friday sales.
