Hit and run... Cost of a rear bumper ?

Someone backed into me in a parking lot, then drove off and I wasn't able to get the license plate. The damage isn't too bad but it needs a new bumper. Any idea of how much this will cost ?

Sorry to hear about your accident. I would guess your bill will be in the $1,500 to $2,500 range. It depends if it is just the bumper shell or if the compression material is damaged.

Check if the lot has cameras then ask the management if they can help with identifying the license plate

Even if you don't have a license plate or a solid description of the hit-and-run vehicle, you can - in the US at least (or at least in MD!) - file an uninsured motorist claim. Here in the states, that is often only a $250 deductible. Rules vary by state but in my state (MD) we need a police report and that's it.

Check with your insurer to see if the Great White North has similar insurance situation for hit-and-run.

In Ontario anyways you will not be at fault in your insurers eyes and therefore it should not affect your rates.
You should however have called the police for the report. Or maybe you did.
That other driver if found may be charged with a hit and run.
Believe the deductible will have to be paid regardless ...in its entirety. But maybe be reimbursed if other driver located.
Sorry to hear this OP.

I had someone hit my bumper in the m240i in August. I'm also from Canada and the total cost out the door for a brand new bumper/repair was $3,100. I had It repaired at the best collision center here in Oakville so I can't see yours being more than that. I know it's an M2 but my m240i was mineral white which is a 3 stage unlike the AW so it really should not be more. Hope this helps and so sorry this has happened. I see you just purchased this car. I picked up my 18 just a few weeks ago and couldn't imagine how I would feel.

I just filed one here in Washington state it was $300 I had to file a police report for the record.

I did it over the phone.

Easy enough.

Do you think it will matter that it's blue? I guess we will see tomorrow at the estimate

When life gives you lemons...

...Just sell those lemons, purchase the Euro bumper pre-painted and throw it on..

Insurance will only pay for the OEM bumper but the total estimate should cover enough to spring for the Euro bumper..

If this has happened to me, I would have been yelling obscenities and giving the asshole the finger. Being as this happened in Canada, I'm imagining that you were a lot more polite :-)
