Custom Magnaflow axle back exhaust

I returned the Remus Sport I had put on my car because it was a loaner. I went to a reputable local muffler shop and had a custom exhaust installed with Magnaflow mufflers and tips. The sound is more pronounced and throatier than Remus. The whole system weights only 24lbs. The quality of their work is excellent and the whole setup costs $500. Custom midpipes would've been $200~$300 more which I opted not to do at the moment. IMO this is a very cost effective way comparing to name brands that costs well over 3k.

I believe that was me too. I posted the details of this setup awhile back in the M3 media gallery area.

After listening to the clip I would say it will drone and annoy the hell out of you. It just attracts too much attention to a nice car. Not my kind of setup.

Sounds good though ... enjoy it!

the muffler sounds amazing considering the price you paid... my m3 is on the way, do you have details on what kind of magnaflow muffler this is ? perhaps you have the part number? magnaflow makes a whole host of mufflers and exhaust systems, i dont know which ones would fit the e92 m3 but it looks like yours fits very well...

btw, the the mufflers come with those tips or were they seperate?

One big difference between custom Magnaflow job and exhausts that cost around 3k. The more expensive exhaust companies put alot of money into R&D so you not only get a great sounding exhaust but also one that will not lose HP like alot of these generic exhausts do.

Yes, you can see the stock pipes with the clamps right before the mufflers. Not bad for the price. Problem with these setups is every one is different depending on the shop. Hope it meets the buyer's expectations. If so, hell of a deal for 1/7th the price of Eisenmann.

Well, it sure does sound great and looks can't get any better IMO. Very, very nice work for a great price. Should get the midpipes as well for only $200 is well worth it I think.

This was my main concern when thinking about going to a custom shop.

Do you feel any loss of HP? Have you thought about re-testing it to see if any loss of HP did occur?

What about the longterm effects it may have on the car?

Definitely interesting, the tips look good. I think stock is probably worth more money tho.

I had the car re-dynoed after the exhaust installed, and it had slight HP increase. About 2hp gain above 7k and no loss in torque down low. Keep in mind the mufflers are 30lbs ligher than the OEM muffler.

Comparing to the $1500 name brand (Remus) I previosuly had, this exhaust outperforms it with lighter weight, better sound, and most importantly, less drones.

Part # for the mufflers is 14377

Those mufflers come without the tips which you'll have to buy separately(included in the price I mentioned), I do not have the part # for the tips so you'll have to look around on Magnaflow's website. G'luck!

Sounds and looks great. Cant' beat the price. I did the same thing (using the same logc as you did) on my E46 323Ci. Are the stock pipes same diameter as something from Eisenmann or Remus?

I've read other tech-data and some other threads about cheap exhaust systems that may not produce the same or actually loose HP. Why pay for something that's gonna rob you of HP? Sounds great but MHO is stay with stock or pay for the high priced exhaust systems that are tested for the M3 and don't rob power.

You're making a huge assumption that anything other than a high priced exhaust system will lose power. High performance exhaust systems for cars other than BMW (i.e. high horsepower cars like Corvette, GTO, Mustang, etc) cost FAR LESS while producing hp gains and improving sound. There is a significant "BMW tax" at work here.

+1
its not difficult to produce a more free flowing exhaust. i would only want to pay for a higher priced exhaust if it was made of better material (titanium for example) but if youre comparing stainless steel mufflers to other stainless steel mufflers, i think cheaper ones can be just as good as more expensive brands...also, magnaflow has been in the business for quite a while and i am sure they know how to make a more free flowing exhaust...
