filling up with 100 octane, need advice.

alright guys so at the middle of the week, im going to sunoco and gonna get about 4-5 gallons of there 100 octane.

all i have on my car is a SSTT and a K&N drop in.

so i am gonna mix a gallon or two of 93 octane and the 4-5 gallons of 100 octane together.
should i see a nice performance increase? also is mixing it sound good. im not sure if i want to run straight 100 octane. any advice please.

As long as it is unleaded you can run whatever percentage of 100 octane you want. You should see a performance increase since SSTT only changes boost, not fuel, not timing, not anything else. Basically it has more to gain from high octane than a tune like PROcede that already adjusts timing....

I wonder if Shiv's race future gas map will go lighter on the timing adjustment.

The tune doesn't adapt on the fly does it? The only reason to run higher octane is so you can use a more aggressive map afaik. Higher octane with an unchanged map will actually decrease power won't it?

You can run straight 100 unleaded everyday if you dont mind the bucks. As far as performance goes the power difference wont feel different unless you run higher than stock boost levels or have any other performance enhancing tune.

I ran straight 100 octane with my SSTT and did not really notice a difference. Not sure if it really worth the extra bucks.

you should feel 100 octane on a hot summer day with a good tune. it could be the SSTT is causing the ecu to alter other parameters to protect the engine. piggy-back's have that disadvantage since you aren't telling the ecu what to do.

if you've disassembled a modern ecu you'll find every single sensor has many many maps and calculations to every sensor. 6 degrees of seperation. been that way since the late 80's early efi.

It won't harm anything to run the 100. However the only time you would feel a performance difference is if the car was pulling boost/timing due to detonation while on pump gas. That COULD happen during really hot weather.

I have driven a car with a full tank of 100 and SSTT (not my car FWIW) and can tell you that it pulls like a SOB.

so it pullee nicely with the 100 octane fill up. im was really debating if it will do much of it is worth it, i did see a SSTT dyno with race gas and it made good power on the dyno.

anyone else with experience?

I let my tank empty down till I only had 10 miles left in my range and put in 6 gallons of sunoco 100. I drove it in the day and at night when it was cooler. Honestly I really couldn't tell any difference, maybe it was a little bit more torquey down low but nothing that would be worth the extra $$$.

don't waste your money on high octane unless you have a very aggressive tune to take advantage of it. The gas doesn't have more energy, it just allows more advanced timing without detonation.

I say go ahead and do it....I noticed a very noticeable difference on race gas vs pump when I had it in. Butt-o-meter would say 20-25whp or so.

Car felt like it was on crack! Wish I could find a few stations around here to fill up w/ the good stuff, none to be found.

Just try it once... if you don't feel a difference, then it's a waste of $20. No big deal.

Sniz, ~25 miles from Ellicott City, just north around the beltway from you

Valentin's Loch Raven Sunoco
8000 Loch Raven Blvd.
Towson, MD 21286
(410) 337-3851

They have Sunoco GT100 at the pump, I've been there personally.

I guess it depends on your definition of "close", but could be worth it in a pinch, I guess...
