This is probably one of those things that sounds cool in theory, but in practice you can get so much out of the stock engine + a flash. Add downpipes etc if you're feeling adventurous. Maybe if you're trying to eeek out that last bit of performance you might consider adjuncts like this and methanol injection etc, but you're better off sticking to the basics first.

If you live your life a quarter mile at a time, this might be worthy to you..
The Hellcat and Demon have a similar set up as this, stock.. Also, back in day on track, some Honda folks had a makeshift aluminum icebox, which you would have to fill, in between runs, to help keep the engine cooler. How if worked, I have no idea but it was quite an innovative set up and certainly sparked my curiosity.. It seem to be a similar concept to what BMW does with the GTS, except it's solid water injection cooling system instead of dense, cold air.. https://www.roadandtrack.com/new-car...ng-power-tech/ https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.yel...1115%26amp%3D1 |

Funnily enough a good friend who is more into the drag racing scene actually told me we should make something like this for the S55 when my car comes ages ago, before we knew this had been developed. Pretty common in the supercharged V8 / drag racing scene apparently.
Although even if not doing regular 1/4 mile runs, it seems to make a lot of sense logically that this would be a good idea from a reliability / performance repeatability point of view? Surprised there isn't more interest. Surely much lower temperatures would be safer from a timing/safety etc POV and seems like much less hassle than a methanol setup. Actually an Australian company, I might get in contact with them for some more info before my M2C arrives.. Peter from Pure is running this setup, I'm sure he can chime in more. Saw on their Facebook page that they're running -7.7degree Celsius (18F) Intercooler fluid temps with it and IAT remained <35C over a 1000m event. |
