X5,Iphone 8s and Amazon Music

Just purchased on Monday and can't get it to show artist, albums or songs. I do not have Apple Carplay. Any help or is that just the way it is? Worked perfectly in the X3 M40i I traded in.

BMW "genius" said that's just the way it is. I told him BS! All of my music always showed up in the X3. The album artwork, artist and title shows up on screen and plays fine as long as it's on your phone when you get in

This and like threads are about Apple Music, not sure if there are posts about Amazon music.

Has anyone been using an Android phone and or Google Play Music? I use a Google Pixel 2 - the first phone I've ever had that has lasted over a year or hasn't been destroyed. Picking up a new X5 friday and wondering how this will work....or if I'll have to get an iphone.

This should work - you need to enable Apple CarPlay - which supports Amazon Music.

There are a few settings that need to be turned on. Check the owners manual and it describes the preconditions to enabling Apple CarPlay

From memory, you need to accept all of the data privacy check boxes, enable WiFi, the. Go to your mobile device settings and select/enable Apple CarPlay. Again, just from memory - but poke around the settings and you should be able to get it to work.

Watch this video that explains how to setup your iPhone as a new device enabled for Apple CarPlay:

Then, check these settings:

Com > Two bumps to right to Settings > Enable Wi-Fi and Apple CarPlay. (Note - leave Internet Connection unselected unless you’ve setup your vehicle as a hotspot)

Then....

Com > select [your phone name] and click down > Connection Mode > select Apple CarPlay

I don't have Apple Carplay-- so I take it that that is the answer. Didnt really want to have to get it after having it in my M40I and finding it very buggy.

Garage List
Amazon Music (or streaming from Apple Music, Spotify, etc) will not show under normal Bluetooth connection because the music is not stored in the music library. You should be able to play it by navigating from your iPhone. And basic control (play/pause, prev, next) should work. However there's no guarantee that album art or list of upcoming songs would work.

That sucks. Everything was seamless in the "18 X3. You could search by artist, album etc. So is this an idrive 7 issue???

You sure? I thought all 2019 X5s came with Apple CarPlay... See my prior post and run through those steps.

lumpydog, you are correct. After diving into it, yes I do have Carplay as will all 2019 BMW's. I then paired everything and all of my music is in Carplay under the Amazon icon. Still havent figured out the texting part of it but I'm sure I will.
I was amazed at the volume difference in Carplay compared to just streaming music via bluetooth, night and day!

That's awesome! PhatBoyG pointed out that Apple CarPlayuses WiFi to stream - vs BlueTooth. It does seem to make a difference.

Glad you are up/running!
