Expensive day today
Vehicle tax and insurance due for renewal. Not good when I have to declare one claim in my car (suicidal deer) and an accident at work.
Nearly £1,200 at this time of year! : |

Just did the road tax, Insurance comes in next week. Oh and the washing machine blew up yesterday - so bought another, then it came back to life so cancelled the new one and then it died again - so bought another one again.

I don't know to be honest but I can't see how. They would then be penalised for bringing a pursuit to a stop.

Went around a roundabout, joined a dual carriageway and the rear end came out as I accelerated. Went one way, then the other, hit the central reservation, bounced back off and hit a car on the inside lane. Luckily that car only had light superficial damage. Because the L200 had something like 130,000 miles on it they decided to write it off. |

I also don't understand this as the risk profile for a driver responding to a 999 call is very different to personal driving. How can an insurer even justify there's a link?? Further I assume car insurance premiums are lower for an emergency driver because either they have received a higher level of training and/or are more aware of the consequences of bad driving and will therefore drive accordingly. Sadly, i bet this is also not the case.

Sounds grossly unfair to me. What happens if you need to go for a TPAC manoeuvre. Sorry, not doing that as my insurance premium will go up!
Makes my choice to run a cheap car for a few years a good idea though. Honda civic, £0 tax and £250 insurance. Whilst it's no BMW it's a fair bit more enjoyable to drive and better than I was expecting. |

Who insures the police - We do a lot of building work for massive (top 100 cilents) and they self insure - for example Glaxo Smithkline. They self insure a lot of their risks as they have enought money to cover any claim and the premiums would not give value for money so in essence they become their own insurer. Its easy when getting into a JCT contract with them as they cover themselves and only their legal dept to deal with.
I would have thought this the same with the Police? The premiums would not be value for money for the tax payer as it would be huge may be better to self insure where costs can be better managed with the backing of the crown and government. |

This is common in emergency services, in my job (fire) lots of drivers refuse to drive anymore because of this and it is a big issue! People just do not do the medical at 45 to keep their LGV licence, shame because these are the most experienced drivers.

I remember having a Izuzu truck on loan maybe years ago whilst waiting for my Impreza P1. Epic fun around the Milton Keynes roundabouts at low speeds. That & my company Midi Van from the early 90's, stick shift, rwd & very rarely has any weight in the back.

I find it surprising that emergency services drivers are not exempt from making claims declarations for accidents which occurred whilst on genuine emergency response.
This seems to be a fundamental disincentive to respond quickly. There are other procedures which can be used to investigate and punish reckless driving by emergency services drivers hence separating emergency response from their personal insurance declarations would be OK IMO.
