So what's the verdict on the new sunroof?
I'm interested to hear from guys that have some road miles on the G05 as to what they think of the new sunroof? Is it a better redesign? Quieter? Or is the new cover and smaller driver portion a disappointment in reality?

To be honest, I completely forgot it was there until a couple days ago. The cover so nicely hides it and blocks the sunlight I feel like I don't have one.
Thankfully. That said, it took nearly a minute to open the cover completely as the sunroof is huge. And just as long to close it. |

I think it's fine. I leave the cover open completely all the time, as the black headliner makes the interior too dark for my taste. I think all the whingeing about the bar being in the front is a non-issue.

Is ok but nothing special. Maybe is the biggest in BMW history but my wife haves macan and is not smaller in proportion to the car. Also finished in end of back seats. The LEDs are ok but really nothing oscar worth

It’s nice. You will have the few that are pissed because the part that opens is smaller, but they are also the ones who complain about the look of the rear seats. They also drink sparkling water with their pinky sticking straight up.

Coming from the E70, thumbs down.
BMW moved the sunroof back 2-3 inches so it’s no longer forward/in view for the driver. The opening (when open) is about 1/2 to 1/3 smaller. Worst part - a window shade closure is now used. Vs the former two section sound deadening panels in the E70. When closed, rain is LOUD on the G05 vs barely perceptible on the E70. It’s nothing that I think twice about - just... why BMW? You had this nailed. Last edited by lumpydog; 12-29-2018 at 05:48 PM.. Reason: typos (as usual) - man I suck at typing |

Nah, Dave, it’s nothing to do with manlihood, more like something to do with gullible-hood and being able to tell the difference between a design and shoddy workmanship... you might want to take your bullshit detector into the shop for repair, yours seems to be nonfunctional... lol...

Dave, I’m sitting here in my jeans and Clemson sweatshirt watching football drinking a Sierra Nevada IPA... like I said, take your BS detector into the shop, guy, it’s giving you reverse signals... lol...

I have no complaints about the sunroof as it is limo tinted and open all the time which gives me what I want to see.

I love the pano roof. I had it in my last Summit and it lets in so much light that anything without a pano roof feels like a cave. The X5 pano feels huge and doesn’t take up any headroom as being 6’ 3” can make a difference in other models. The ride is quiet and the open position doesn’t wind buffer or flutter. The sunshade blocks out all light unlike other manufacturers (Audi) that use a semi mesh material. The G05 is a completely different/new design so any comparisons of X5’s of the past is a mute point. As full panoroofs go on luxury rides, it’s among the best of them.
