Adaptive drive mode. Any details how this works?

Is there any detailed info on how this system works?
This is all the manual says.
ADAPTIVE
Concept
Comfort-oriented driving mode, whose tuning is automatically modified to the driving situation and driving style.
If the navigation system is active, upcoming road sections are considered.

In theory, sensors are suppose to measure monitor the road beneath the wheels in real time and adjust the shocks and springs to create a smooth driving experience. Does BMW implement it this way in conjunction with using the Nav info? I don't know. I do know from the Nav info, it takes into account construction zones and upcoming turns and such.
