Wiper blade contacting A pillar?

The few times I've driven my X5 at speed in the rain, there is a "clack" sound when the driver's side blade reaches all the way to the left. I think it is contacting the trim on the A pillar — like it's overshooting its stopping point.

I tried to verify by running the wipers while the X5 is parked, but the wiper doesn't overshoot like when I'm driving... it doesn't quite reach the crisp line where you can see the wiper has swept before. I'm wondering if wind at speed is maybe causing it to overshoot.

Anyone else seen this?

Anyone else? It’s raining again today. The blades seem to be rubbing on the windshield and depositing rubber, causing the blade to jump at the end of the cycle and contact the A pillar. Am I the only one?

Looks like it since you know how we all love to complain

I'd take it into the dealer, they probably just need to align the wipers.

Good luck!

I had the same problem on my 540xi. I turned the wiper off and when turned back on, it fixed itself. It was raining extremely hard when I experienced this problem. I never took it into service for this as it only happened once.

Update on this. The dealer took a look again and referenced Service Information Bulletin (SIB) 61-01-19, noting they "replaced wiper with updated blades that have double graphite."

I will see if this works the next time it rains.

Thanks for the update

I hope it works for you, hopefully they are very smooth now and dont' hit your A pillar anymore!

Crossing my fingers... if so, I can finally cross that persistent issue off my list

i have had that issue and driving in Portland means 80% rain. is your issue fixed with new wiper blades from dealer? if so can you tell what exactly the wiper blade is called?

I just got the X5 back last night and it hasn't rained, so I can't tell. I never could reproduce the issue on a dry windshield (causing frustration to diagnose at dealer); it would only do it when it was lightly misting on a long drive.

The blade doesn't really have any identification that I can see, but here's a close up of it if that helps.
