The weather widget has returned!

Amazingly, today after receiving a notification about new services needing approval in "Data Privacy", and approving them, and then updating apps, I finally have a weather widget, news, and a host of other apps. Woo!

Who is paying for this wifi service and what internet provider is it? AT&T, Verizon.......?

I dunno - I haven't yet been able to setup any hotspot or internet service so I assume the data for weather and news widgets come over the same connection as the bmw connected app data which I think is satellite based, not ground based cellular. But I don't know for sure! All I know is I haven't setup any form of payment or account with AT&T.

BTW still at software rev .49 .. I saw somewhere that there is a .50 but I haven't tried to "search for upgrade" yet.

Satellite is only for GPS, All the connected services are through cellular only. The hotspot is only available for 3 months based on what I found. The rest of the services except BMW connected+ and car play are for 4 years. And the service provider is AT&T.

Image #2 is what I see with three panels on my screen.

If I say "Hey BMW, how's the weather" then I see image #4.

How do you get images #1 and #3. Is that only when they take up the full screen?

Me too!! I have software version .29. I was going to update when I pick up license plates but this is great. All the other apps showed up too. Great, but odd.

I didn't get anything in notifications, but looked in car settings and saw I needed to check the box again to agree to everything, then went into apps and had 2 new things I have never had, BMW Connected and Software Information, I then did the the option button and chose update and when that completed, the same apps came back slowly, maybe I didn't wait long enough as they may have all came back, but I did the hold volume down for 30 seconds reset and when it booted back up went to apps and after a minute News showed up, then slowly all apps came back and everything is actually working for the first time, weather, news, messages and parknow! Looks like they found the issue somewhere on the backend and fixed it!!!

Same here - saw the data privacy approval popup. Authorized... Updated Apps, then nothing. Forgot I needed to reset the iDrive. Did that and the apps started to appear one-by-one.

Nice to see this resolved. My CA emailed me yesterday and asked what brand/model of phone I was using (Apple XS Max) and what carrier (AT&T). Sounded like they were coordinating with the mother ship to address.

Image 1 is what I see when I add the widget to a full left or right half.

Image 3 is what I see when I tap on it with my finger.

That's correct. If you want these beyond the trial period, You need subscription to BMW/AT&T.

Same here. When I started the car I got a message about having to re-login to my Connected Drive account. After I did that I got a message about Data Privacy Services, accepted all of those (which I had done previously) and, voila, all the widgets showed up for the first time. Clearly, BMW finally figured out the source of the problem and did something to rectify it. Good to know they are listening.

That's correct. If you want these beyond the trial period, You need subscription to BMW/AT&T.

An AT&T subscription is only required for hotspot. Data for all the connected features is included in your ConnectedDrive subscriptions.

I dropped off my car at the dealership today, and they got everything working too.

Here was their "correction" on the invoice:

CHECK VEHICLE FOR CUSTOMER CCOMPLAINT. INTERROGATE FAULT MEMORY. CONDUCT TEST PLAN CONNECTED DRIVE SERVICES AND TRIED TO ACTIVATE, SERVICES COULD NOT BE ACTIVATED AS BACKEND SERVER ISSUE OCCURED. CREATED PUMA CASE 64658629 WHICH WAS TOLD TO PERFORM SYSTEM RESET AND RE ACTIVATION . TRIED BUT STILL UNSUCCESSFUL. WAS THEN TOLD THAT SIM SERVICES WERE DISCONNECTED ON BACKEND SERVER AND WERE RE ENABLED. UPDATED SERVICES IN VEHICLE AND TRIED AGAIN, SYSTEM OPERATING NORMALLY.

If it was all satellite based it would be even less connected. It wouldn't work in a parking garage or personal garage. As it is, it can still be somewhat limited, but it works inside my home garage and most everywhere else I've been. I don't know how something can be any more "connected" than by cellular service at this point in our society. From someone who is old enough to have driven more miles before cell phones were invented than after, I always find it amusing when people complain about not having cell service somewhere.

Yeah, I'm with you, I just think that since the car is designed to go places where cell towers ain't, the more adventurous owners might find themselves disconnected more often than if it were sat-based. But then again, that might also be what the owner intended (off the grid)

Back on for me too. I didn't have to do anything (data privacy etc) and they just came on by themselves.

Anyone know what the BMW Store is supposed to to? I just keep getting a service unavailable message.

I had to run the app updates twice, agree to data privacy a couple of times, and reset the idrive (hold down the volume knob until the screen turns black and release) a couple of times before all the apps showed up. I am still having an issue with carplay disconnecting from my iPhone every 5 minutes. I am on software version 11/2018.45 and the car reports that I am up to date (not true).
