Headlights and taillights turn on randomly

I have now owned my G05 X5 for 6 weeks. I traded from a 2016 F15. Car drives great. Car looks great. There have been several issues which I will detail in different posts.

When the car is off and locked, the headlights and taillights will come on at random times. At first I thought that this was a comfort access feature when I approached the car with the key fob. Under setting, I deselected welcome and goodbye lights and this made no difference. I have security cameras in my garage and when I reviewed the footage, I noted that the lights would turn on for 5-10 seconds for no reason whatsoever. This would be in the middle of the night and no-one was around the vehicle. My dealer has not been able to explain this to me.

Perhaps over the air signals it is receiving but not installing? Given the current firmware updates coming, it seems harmless enough of a glitch. I would let BMW get their coding worked out and see if it does this after the next update. Another thought, I have see alarms trigger in parking garages from slight vibrations of the building from wind, etc...

Mine has done this too!! I was wondering why. Didn't know if my key, which is stored on a table just inside the house from the garage, is too close to the car. Very strange indeed.

I have had issues with just one headlight coming on and staying on. I have to push the headlight button to off to get it turned off.

Anybody else have that issue?

For me it turned out to be the key in my wifes handbag. Anytime she walked by with the bag, the lights would come on :-)

That same thing happen to me today, in my 2016 X5 F15. I returned to my car to find the brake and head lights on. Once before my left brake light was on by itself but I didn't think anything of it. When I left the car all the light was off, so I'm thinking it's a real problem. Was you able to find out the cause to your problem?

As an experiment, get yourself an RF blocking bag or wrap your remote(s) in aluminum foil to dampen their signal and see if that makes any difference. You could try putting the remote in a pan with a tight-fitting lid, too. The remote interaction occurs at a two stage thing, really close so it can open the doors, and further away for some other functions.

Apparently this is a common problem with the G05 and could be others. It's the chip. My friend has this issue and dealer finally told him they are aware of it and it's a "chip" issue and they need to order new chip from Germany, which as we know, chips are rare to find these days. And yes, dealers are aware of this problem and its fix. it's a chip and new programming supposedly. The interior power comes on also, like apple car play.
