Key Card programmed yesterday and has worked flawlessly (so far)

My dealer got me my “BMW Key Card” yesterday and programming it in the cell tray took 3 seconds. Shocked, I couldn’t believe it was that easy but sure enough it works. The BMW Black Card works through my thick leather Coach wallet so no need to even take it out. This is very next gen cool tech. Surprisingly my Galaxy Note 8 still can’t be programmed to work because of a issue with Samsung security. Genius say they are working it out with Samsung but the feature seems redundant with the key card already working.

i programmed mine then I got home as it came with the car and was like you said took 3 seconds and works totally fine. Do wish the phone would work, would be nice to be able to use my phone for those times when maybe I don't have my wallet on my but I do always have my phone.

I agree. The phone also has to be worked out. We are now in the latest “cool factor” tech that I love to play with. “Key? We don’t need no stinkin keys....”.

I ended up putting the key card under my iPhone in my iPhone case... Works perfectly to unlock and start the car... Have to swipe away Apple pay but other than that it's great!

I picked up my car on 12/31 and it came with the card. Like Mystro said. It’s very easy to program

Free through dealer. They just ordered me one. Took 5 days to get it. I have a early build and the dealers are to order you in one free as it comes with your new X5. Builds now will probably come with the card on delivery.

Do you have to keep your card/wallet in a specific location while turning on the vehicle and while driving?

Yes, key card in charging tray. You can leave it in the wallet and set wallet in charging tray.

You have to place it in the wireless charging tray to turn on the engine. I have not driven the car with just the key card yet

Do you have to leave it in the charging tray or can you actually charge your phone once the car is started?

Sit the phone on top of the card in the tray and it charges fine.

I missed getting the key card by a build week. Bottom line, at some point they will become available. Owners lose them, etc. I'd like one because I need a key that is submersible due to the sport I compete in.

Question is, will BMW make us early adopters pay for them or make it right? I'm pressing my CA to figure out how to get me caught up to what should have been delivered with my vehicle...

If you are a week 48 or earlier - ask your CA to help here.

You get a key card for free from your dealer. Have your dealer step up and order you one.

MystroX5 - did _you_ do the programming, unassisted by dealer, or did _they_ have to program it with some special secret procedure or ESA or device?

I received one at delivery, but it didn't and continues not to work, no matter what I do!

I'd rather not have to drive to the dealership to get this done (20 mins, I know, first world problems right?)

They said it was “activated” when I got it. Just went to the car and opened the “door access” in settings. Then checked the key card and selected “add key card”. Placed on tray and it programmed in 3 seconds.

Who did you ask at the dealership to get the card? Parts, Service, or your CA?

My CA. He has handled everything. He had everything I ordered like travel tray, leather care, etc.. ready including my key card on Friday when I picked them up.
