Event Data Recorder

Thanks for the X5 manual post.

After reading on page 14 about the event data recorder, I am not sure I want that data available.

What are people's thoughts on this?

I guess it could be good or bad.

The EDR in this vehicle is designed to record
such data as:
▷ How various systems in your vehicle were op‐
erating.
▷ Whether or not the driver and passenger
safety belts were fastened.
▷ How far, if at all, the driver was depressing the
accelerator and/or brake pedal.
▷ How fast the vehicle was traveling.

This data can help provide a better understanding of the circumstances in which crashes and injuries occur.

EDR data is recorded by your vehicle only if a nontrivial crash situation occurs; no data is recorded by the EDR under normal driving conditions and no personal data, for instance name, gender, age, and crash location, are recorded.

However, other parties, such as law enforcement, could combine the EDR data with the type of personally identifying data routinely acquired during a crash investigation.

To read data recorded by an EDR, special equipment is required, and access to the vehicle or the EDR is needed. In addition to the vehicle manufacturer, other parties, such as law enforcement, that have the special equipment, can read the information if they have access to the vehicle or the EDR.

Nothing like having your own car testify against you.

G05 Event Data Recorder

I have a 2021 G05 and I was involved in a minor traffic accident where none of my airbags deployed. I rear ended another vehicle that was making a left hand turn.

My accident was two weeks ago.

My questions:

Q1.) Does anyone know how long EDR data is kept for?

Q2.) Would EDR have recorded my speed, braking, driver assist distance/alert at the time of the accident?

Unfortunately I went in to check the APP Drive Recorder video and that function had not been activated. I'm a new owner and my BMW dealership basically left me on my own to learn all the iDrive setup options... I now have Drive Recorded activated...

Thank you!
