Escort Max 360 Smartcord compatibility issue?

The Max 360 worked fine in my 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport and in my neighbors old Ford F150 truck. However, when I tested it in the 2019 X5, it did not work … the detector remained silent! When I contacted Escort and told the agent the problem I was having, he said he had not heard of any issues and would pass the problem to the engineers.

Its not the detector it's the stupid 12v cigarette plug. If you press on the plug down and hold it, it will reach the metal power socket down below and you will have power. I have the same issue as do most people with the new g05.

There are two threads about this so those with such issues are using plug extension.

If you search, you will discover laser issues introduced by G05 to detectors like V1 but less so with less sensitive detecotors like the R3 or 360.

The radar detector smartcord works in a 2019 BMW X3 BUT does not work in a 2019 BMW X5. Tried pushing on smartcord in the X5, but no luck.

Sand off the plastic end near the tip of the plug on radar cord or buy an adapter. (X5 12 volt socket is smaller in diameter deep inside) TWSS

I have the same problem with my Escort MAX360.

I'm planning on getting this:

I'll just hardware it by the visor.

Before you hardwire an E360, you might want to take a look at the R7 coming this year.

Thx

The issue is, there are two specs for 12vdc sockets. On one, the diameter is slightly smaller than the other. The shape of some plugs tends to have a flare near the upper end. To get the plug deep enough into the socket for the center pin that has 12vdcv on it, the top of the plug may need to be smaller in diameter.

If you have a soldering iron, you might be able to apply a blob of solder on the end of the spring-loaded center contact, and that MIGHT be enough to make contact.

Go to your dealer and have them apply the SIB that replaces the socket.

Here is the fix, view public album "12 Volt Lighter Socket Fix" under my profile. I have 99 screws LOL, drop me a message and I can put a couple in the mail. The screw to be removed is a #10 Torx, the replacement screw is an allen.

FWIW, replacing the center contact in the socket was the original fix BMW proposed, and mostly worked. But, they ended up deciding that replacing the socket was the better solution. BMW should do that for you for free if you take it to them. Takes them about 15-minutes. If you mess up taking the original screw out, the whole socket comes apart, and you then have to tear the thing apart to get access so you can put it back together. Why bother?

FWIW, it's a 12v accessory socket...there's an actual difference between one of those and a cigarette lighter socket. A plug designed for a cigarette socket often won't fit into an accessory socket but a plug designed to fit an accessory socket generally will fit in a cigarette socket.

I recently complaint about this to dealer. And they just said it's working to spec and demonstrated that a "bmw approved usb plug" was working in the 12v. Do you have the SIB number to show them?

This is the updated SIB...the original one called for changing the screw at the bottom to one that has a taller head so it can make contact.
