While there are some software issues, mainly regarding phones/idrive, I didn't consider them at the level of not getting the vehicle but that is something that you have to decide. I could have missed them but have not heard of any major issues concerning engine, transmission etc.
I could be naive but I believe they will keep releasing updates to provide bug fixes and all will be working as it should eventually. Will it be frustrating to not have things working, you bet but hopefully it doesn't to the point of not being able to enjoy the X5. The bluetooth went out on my current car a couple of years ago and never got it fixed so if I have some connections issues with the X5 I still will be ahead of where I am now. Good luck in your decision, looks like a nice build. |

I don't think there are a lot of issues at all with the car. Software fixes sure. But that's about it. Mine has 1k miles now and not a single issue

Everything I've heard seems to be related to software. BMW is amazing at keeping the customer's happy (ie: fixing things free of cost, giving loaners, etc). I went through with the purchase knowing that if anything goes wrong, BMW will make it right.

Get leather dash as it adds leather on the doors. Get
“Driving Assistance Plus” as it adds ACC and high speed collision avoidance as well as other safety options. Keep in mind you can turn off or adjust sensitivity of these safety options. |

Which is worse, possibly dealing with some reboots and software issues, or driving your current ride wishing it was the new X5? If you go with a Jan build should be fine. Most issues were fixed in Dec, and only a couple more issues that rebooting has fixed. 2020 will have the same iDrive and as we have now. Any software changes can be downloaded to the 2019. 2020 you may have some more color/interior options. Up to you how much of a hurry you are in. I generally wait a year on new BMW's, but I was sick of waiting. Because a first year, I decided to lease.

I ended up waiting for quite a few reasons. I did drive the X5 a couple of times and really do like it. My reasons for waiting (1) first year car so getting the gremlins out (2) dealer not having cars with features like merino leather that I want to see before ordering (3) lots of other really cool SUV's like Q8, Cayenne and GLE all just out or coming soon. Doesn't hurt to look around and see what you really like if not in a hurry.
I do want to see what happens with the wrinkly seats and all the issues people are talking about on the boards. If I really needed a car now, I could get past some of the issues, but it is a good rule of thumb to wait until year 2. I personally leased a sedan for a great rate and will kick the can for 3 years. |

All great points
My last ride was a 16 x5d best vehicle I ever owned Was in a terrible accident and the car saved my life Ended up getting a Jeep Grand Cherokee after that while insurance settled everything out , that's what's I am in now and hate it I have been patiently waiting for the new x to come out and I am so torn if I should wait another 10 months for a 2020 or pull the trigger now Not a bad problem to have the decision is killing me! |

The problem is, you could keep waiting for ever and there will be something new coming. And then wait more time for it to stabilize makes no sense. I waited for 6 months to get the new 2017 Q7. Got it as soon as it was released. I also waited close to a year to get the new G05. The Q7 has been excellent so far. I have had the X5 for only 2 weeks and I am hoping I won't have any issues.

I have been very pleased with my X5. The car has its quirks, but nothing worth commenting about. Performs incredibly. I was also hesitant getting the first year, but I found myself needing a car (near totaling a 2017 Discovery following a medical emergency) and found a car that had just come in with 90% of the options I was looking for. My advice would be just to get what you want and let BMW take care of the rest. My 2017 Discovery was a mid-year build of the debut and I had very few issues. With cars this advanced, there is always going to be something. And BMW sells so many cars - a few are bound to have some problems, but I wouldn't call any of the problems I read to be more than a little tech. Definitely not lemons.
What I also like about the new BMW, download an update in your driveway and not have to fiddle much with the dealer. Ours is 3 hours away and I don't anticipate going back until 10k! Again, very pleased to be back in the X5 after 3 Rovers (all wonderful, but the new X5 with off road has it all, far better vehicle than a RRS or Disco - amazing handling and ergonomics). Pull the trigger if you can get what you want or don't hesitate to order! |

For the first time in our life I ordered what WE want, not some car loaded with a lot of crap on the lot. Like our custom built home, we are building to suit and looking forward to it. Got a below invoice deal with incentives, etc. end of the year deal too. Unreal! |

Still waiting on production so I haven't filed. We will accept based on a positive test drive when it comes in. Attached is the final invoice, end of the year deal. Talking Jan 2!

thats the question with a lot of things isn't it? should I buy now or should I wait? There will always be something better on the horizon so if you find the vehicle that you like and you have the means to obtain it then I think you should. live in the now
