Consumer Reports guide, GO5 predictied reliability, etc. Facts posted.....

Consumer Reports is my go-to when it comes to car buying especially reliability. I used to fill out those VERY intensive, comprehensive real use forms so I know first hand hand how reliable this information is as reported by owners. BMW gets a glowing report. Predicted reliability is as usual for ANY new car generation - CR starts at average and goes from there in subsequent years.

Having said that year after year the most trouble free cars/trucks have been Toyota and Lexus *in general*. Like all makes and models most Toyota vehicles are rated tops, some "not so tops" like the Tacoma.

Thanks for posting. It's good to see that the brand is up there in quality and the 17 model had great stats. I hope the 19 lives up to those numbers. The 2 reviews so far on Edmunds are 5 stars. I am hoping the issues on this board are addressed quickly.

I am probably the exception to the rule, but in 20 year, I have had 7 BMW's, 3 Lexus Models, a Audi, 2 Merc's and about 6 Hondas and a Toyota.

The 2 by far least reliable cars of all those, RX350 and GX470 - both Lexus vehicles both sucked for problems.

Interesting. Been in 2 Toyota pickups and the Lexus. Had NO problems, not even needing to change spark plugs, hoses, belts....nothing. My Lexus RX350 which I picked up in July 2012 is just as solid as it was then. Had one software update and one minor warranty recall adjustment.

Am really looking forward to the GO5. So much tech and "improvements" have occurred since then, with ALL manufacturers. I would never consider Jeep, Range Rover, Buick, Jaguar and others. Even Mercedes is plaqued with problems according to owners I've talked to.

My 2009 RX350 blew the transfer case and leaked oil all over my floor at 3k miles, back power door died shortly after and something else went wrong - sold it after 9 months and 10k miles. The GX470 before it had a nasty driveline rearend clunk sitting at lights, eventually fixed, electronically controlled leaking shocks in the first 10k miles, fixed then just randomly no dampening in the rear, would go like a pogo stick over some bumps to the point of almost causing you to loose control and then would suddenly come back - never fixed. Constant limp mode no power, restart would fix it, probably 5 trips to the dealer, finally diagnosed as some air pump under the intake manifold which did seem to fix it - dealer ruined rear bumper while fixing it though - bought a 2011 X5 after that and even if the lexus vehicles were problem free, would not buy another, would rather have a problematic X5 than a problem free Lexus.
