Bugs, bugs, bugs

We all know iDrive is buggy as hell. Anyone else having the issue where the right scroll wheel no longer appears on the HUD (so as to scroll through songs, stations, etc.). and the menu in the right side of the main dash display no longer cycles through the options? This happens almost every other time I start the car, and the only thing that fixes it is rebooting iDrive. Extremely frustrating!

It only works for me at all on an old iPod. iPhone and iPod Touch offer no scrolling. Unfortunately, it is super buggy in other ways with the iPod Classic.

The whole system is a mess and I'm hoping the imminent software update will correct these issues.

When is that update due?

Hey Mike. When you say "the whole system is a mess", do you feel like you hate the car and wish you'd never bought it? Or is it just a minor annoyance?

Did you reboot your iDrive? Push and hold the volume knob for 30 seconds. This will do a hard reboot of the system. Should clear most issues up for awhile. It’s an easy fix until the major update is released.

The rumor is this month.

Pura - My good friend who was home in Munich for Christmas got together with some friends who are high level BMW execs, including the head of global quality, and said they told him 1/7 after he related the issues I was having. They were aware of all of them. Obviously that date didn’t happen, which didn’t surprise me, but they know about these issues and a fix is coming sooner than later.

Doc - Don’t hate the car. Great and an improvement over our 2016 (which was great) in many ways. The new iDrive is what’s buggy and disappointing, especially given how trouble free all our other BMWs have been and my 2018 540 is. It will, no doubt, get worked out, but still frustrating and makes you really wonder how much of this got past any kind of testing. I experienced most of these issues on my drive home (15 minutes) from the dealer after first getting the car

I had this issue, then when I went to drive home it works. Seems every is a surprise as to what will work and what won't. Need to think of this more as a computer than a car. If it's not working, reboot.

So, my German buddy checked with his friend at BMW HQ in Munich yesterday and the update was transmitted to BMW NA on January 7. Not sure what the status is now; seemingly they have some process of their own before they deploy to dealers.

Wouldn't it be an over-the-air update?

Maybe that’s some of the delay with the units on the line waiting for production.

My sense is that it will not be OTA. I think they are holding off on that for now or maybe they were reserving that for smaller updates. This seems substantial.

My order went in on Jan. 2. As of this morn it's still stuck on the 2nd dot "Scheduled for production".

I hope we didn't but a buggy car.
