Engine Problem

Hi everyone. I have a 2011 323i. Recently i started up my car and the engine light was on. 20 seconds later the car revs alone to 1500 rpms then back to normal and it shakes randomly, and there's power loss when driving. I have to say that the car has a lot of white smoke from the exhaust and it has poor gas mileage. Any support is appreciated. Thank you.

Do you have a BMW specific code reader? That would be the first step. Could be a number of things, leaky injector(s) , bad 02 sensor etc. Need to check codes or its like shooting in the dark.

The problem is i don't trust mechanics here. They have ones but they aren't bmw specific. Other than that the dealership is far away n i can't trust the car and drive it for 100+ km. Just wanted some help cz I'm kinda worried, but ur right. Thanks.

How many miles ?
It could be coils or O2 sensor (generally at 200k miles)

Well buy a cable and run BMW software for free from your laptop then.

I took it today. They told me it's something to do with the vanos. I hope it's true. Thanks guys
