Love my 335xdrive, flat question
Any ideas for getting around the run flat tires. I was figuring on carrying a set with plugs, rubber cement, jack and small compressor, instead of carrying a spare. Thoughts?

For non run flat ops, have exactly what you're planning to get. Also a breaker bar with 17mm lug nut socket.

I do carry a Slime flat repair kit, but I have no plans to use it unless I get stuck somewhere with no cell service. |

Totally agree... Seriously... in 35 years of very abusive driving I have never had a flat while driving... walking out hours later and finding a flat yes... but at the time fix-a-flat did the job to get me to a garage... I have the Slime flat repair kit also... it's like $22... In the year I've had it... I've only used the pump twice... once on my bimmer and once on my wife's SUV to only air up the tires.... I have road side assistance also..

Forty five years driving and I too have never had a flat while driving. I carry the goo pack and compressor but my plan if I have a flat will be to use the cell phone I also carry. Life is too short to run your BMW on runflats.

I carry Fix-a-Flat and always have a compressor in my car. Together with roadside assistance on my auto insurance, I am covered. It has come in handy once already a couple of years ago.

OP, what run flat tires do you have? Some run flat tires are better than others.
Bridgestone Potenza S001 consistently find themselves near the bottom of the list while Pirelli P Zero generate less noise until tread wears off - which is representative of all run flat tires. |

Does the slime and/or Fix-a-flat damage the air pressure sensors?
I did not like my run flats. They were new on my used car when I bought it. The person who put them on mangled the seal and they were all leaking. I switched to regular tires and ride was way better. Many shops will not work on run flats. Last edited by JLStock; 02-01-2019 at 04:51 PM.. Reason: Edit |

No need for Slime/Fix a Flat. Carry tire inflator, plug kit, rubber tire cement, jack, small and large needle nose pliers, small and large vice grip pliers, small flashlight. Maybe even a small bottle of soapy water.
If you get a flat, jack the car up. Typically, a nail or screw will still be in the tire. The pliers are for grabbing and pulling it out. The put some rubber cement onto a plug and plug the hole. If there is no nail or screw visible and you cannot find the leak, inflate the tire a little bit and spray some of the soapy water and look for bubbling. Then plug the hole. My brother used to be an auto insurance appraiser and he regularly got flats going in and out to salvage yards. When he need to get new tires, each old tire had about 10 plugs in them but they all held up. |

Trying to use a plug kit on the side of the road seems fairly impractical. I carry one with me, but only in case of an emergency. I don't consider it a replacement for run flats or a fix a flat kit.
If you get a flat on a busy highway, you want to minimize the time you spend on the side of the road. A fix a flat kit would work for any situation where a plug would work. Yes, it might cost a few extra bucks to clean out at the tire shop, but that's worth the smaller risk and convenience. Neither solution would work in a blowout or large hole in your tire. Yeah throw a plug kit in your trunk, but don't rely on it. |

Thanks you wonderful people! I checked on tire rack and priced a TPM sensor for 15 335i, around 40 bucks, I heard they were couple hundred from bmw. Going to get fix a flat, and not worry much.
