Bought Castrol Edge fully synthetic non LL01 by accident

As per the title, can I still do an oil change and keep it in there for less OCI?
Will it do any damage?

You can run it for 5k miles. It will do no damage unless it is the wrong weight.

Why not just take it back and get the right stuff?

I mean I would just return it and get LL01 but you can always run it fine I think.

Thanks for the feedback.
I ended bringing it back and getting Pennzoil Euro.
I've only had the car, a short while and dont want to take no chances.

I've been running the castrol edge full synthetic non LL01 for a year and a half with zero issues. Im still on stock turbos and just passed 181, 000 kms on the odometer. I do my oil changes every 5,000 KM's.

I've run Castrol Edge fully synthetic non LL01 for at least 5 years and 60K miles with 10k mile change intervals and continually upping the mods + boost. Not one issue.

Oh, oh ,oh, oh! All you who are using non-LL01 oil, if BMW catches you, they will be very upset with you for not letting them continue ripping you off and not believing their crap! And if you're also one of those smart ones who try to change the lifetime oil, oh, oh ,oh, oh! You will see BMWs toothless wrath for sure!

AFAIK Penzoil Euro isn't even LL01 haha. I think only one grade is.

We're talking about an oil spec though not a interval.

IMO LL01 still provides something.

I've yet to see proof or actual data on difference between LL01 and not so I rather stick to what the manual says for fluid specs..

And anyways the Castrol A3/B4 LL01 is one of the best oils you can get if we ignore the LL01 spec.

LL-01 is a spec that manufacturers have to pay BMW for to slap on their bottles. For example, Mobil 1 0w-40 I have been running for a while used to carry the LL-01 designation for several years. Now it does not. Not because the oil changed, but because they didn’t pay BMW.

Okay but how do you know it hasn't changed. Has Mobil 1 confirmed this?

I wasn't to sure aswell. I google again I think you're right but all I find is forums so I wouldn't base just on that.

https://www.oildepot.ca/bmw-motor-oi...ons-explained/

BMW-LL-04 was devised for BMW models with diesel engines. Motor oils bearing the BMW LL-04 specification should not be used in BMW models with gasoline engines requiring the BMW “LL-01” specification. The BMW LL-04 specification does not replace or supersede the older BMW LL-01 specification.

K I'm confused as fk now.
Bmw now recommends pennzoil/shell.
Pennzoil states this on their website for euro oil.
"""""Pennzoil Platinum®*Euro Full Synthetic motor oils can be used for modern light duty diesel engines, as well as high performance gasoline engines. Nothing keeps your engine closer to factory clean1*than Pennzoil Platinum Euro Full Synthetic"""
This is on the cdn site.
Clearly, no where do they say, dont use in cdn/us gasoline engines.
Which Canadian pennzoil oil, do canadians use in their gas engines? Cuz I couldnt find one that says ll-01.

If I goto the pennzoil site and select the oil selector and punch in my vehicle, it says choose the euro version.

LL-04 can be used for and is advised for both diesel and petrol BMW engines in Europe. LL-01 is advised for US, mostly because of different fuel.

Look up what oil to use on you preferred supplier for you country.

I know, I really wanted to try 0W-30 Pennzoil but it seems only the OEM Dealer Oil (which is Pennzoil in a BMW bottle as you say) is LL01 and the one at the store isn't lol. So not sure if BMW are blocking Pennzoil from advertising LL01 on the bottle to force ppl to buy dealer oil or there is actually something different between the 2.

If you look on Pennzoil website I believe as hellokitty says it's only the 5W-40 that is officially LL01.

I'm just going to stick with Castrol LL01 0W-40
