Weird Nav problem
If I display my 'current position' in the window next to the map in the navigation it incorrectly shows my heading. The blue arrow in the navigation map and the compass on the mirror will correctly show my heading as, say NE, but the position window will show NW. If nav and mirror show SW it will say SE. It determines North and South correctly but E and W directions are 90 degrees out of sync with the nav map and the mirror. It's weird to see the nav small blue arrow pointing correctly but the current position arrow, in the window next to it, flipped in the mirrored direction.
Any tips? |

Take out the NAV disc and start the car. Turn the car off and re-insert the nav disc. Turn your car on and do not drive for 5 minutes. It need to re-gain satelites.. I was told and it worked for me.

OK I feel like a total idiot. Thats right, that needle does always point North. Hense it always shows an N next to it. Is there any option to change this to show one's current heading instead ?

I'm not by my car, but I believe I saw an option when you select what perspective you want it to read. Try looking at the perspective view and see if it shows car position. Sorry, couldn't be more help, I'm out of town, but believe I saw this when I was playing with it a couple of weeks ago.

There are three settings for the map: 1) Map with North always at the top, 2) Direction of travel at the top, 3) perspective where the road appears like your looking out the windscreen.
Obviously you have iDrive. So, for the options above simply say 1) "Map Facing North", 2) "Map, Direction of Travel", 3) "Map, Perspective". Hope you don't get lost.

I was driving back home last night and my actual position and the position on the navi were totally out of sync. I tried planning a couple of routes from where I was and it really help. I kept driving and decided to remove and reinsert the DVD hoping that would help but in vain. I planned a route home again even though I was only a couple of blocks from home and it showed up just fine. I checked on it this AM and so for it looks good. I found this thread while looking for information and I hope it was just the Navi trying to regain satellites.
Do you guys think I should still take it to the dealership to have it checked out or just hope everything is okay and move on? |

The latter, unless it happens again within the next month or two. If it couldn't see the satellites, it might do something like this. And many units may start searching for sats that aren't there if they get really confused, in which case it could take up to 30 minutes or so to be "sure" about the position again. You're bound to see errors like this at times -- very rare, but it can happen with any GPS unit.

Thanks BK. The navi has been working perfectly fine since the incident. Hopefully will continue to do so and I guess I'm not gonna worry about checking with the stealership.

In reply to those who felt stupid that the needle always points north... you can select whether you want it to point the direction of travel so it will always point upwards..you can select the map north and the needle will move EWSN on your screen.
