Treo 650 favorites xfer to E90 via BlueTooth

I've read dozens of threads both here, Bimmerfest and on Treo forums regarding difficulties getting the Treo 650 to pair and make calls with the integrated BlueTooth in the E90.

Funnily enough, I have absolutely no problems pairing and operating the phone from the car, but I absolutely can't get the Treo to transfer ANY contacts to the car's phonebook. This makes dialling calls in the car possible only by spelling out the phone number, or picking up the Treo and dialling there. Not good. Everything else works, except favorites aren't transferred to the car.

Has anyone here had a similar experience? Did you get contacts / favorites to transfer to the car's phonebook? If so, how did you do it?

FYI, I have an Australian unlocked GSM Treo 650 with firmware 01.71, software 'Treo650-1.20-LAP' and hardware 'A'. The car is a South African October built, Australian delivered E90.. not sure what the onboard software revision is.

Any help / suggestions welcome..

Anyone? Surely someone's got a Treo talking to their car...?

It won't transfer your contacts to the car. However, any number you have stored as a speed-dial number should be transferred. On my Treo, I set my most frequently used numbes on pages 2-4 of speed dial. When I get into the car I have 30 or so contacts transferred to the car.

If you have a number simply set to the favorites category in "contacts", it still won't get transferred.

CnoteMD is right. Ony your favorites will transfer. This should happen automatically. I don't have to do anything special to get mine to transfer.

Hmm.. that's what I thought. I have about 3 pages of favorites buttons populated, but they steadfastly refuse to appear on the car's phonebook.

How long did it take the first time you paired the phone before your favorites transferred? I can transfer my entire contact database to my bluetooth-enabled laptop in about a second via OBEX, but that's doing a 'send category' from the Treo and selecting bluetooth.

I've got no idea how the car is supposed to request the favorites from the phone; I can't do that from my laptop. It's almost as if the car never *asks* for the list...

What CIP number do you have on your car? What firmware/software on the Treo? I'm wondering if there's some incompatibility between the two I have...

Mowog, I have exactly the same issue as you.....I posted about a week ago but have no update! Despite the phone update confirming this should work on the BMW bluetooth kit.

Uhh.. awesome, I'm not alone Anyone else got this problem?

Do you know what CIP software your car has? Can you tell me what you've got in your 'phone info' menu (firmware, software and hardware)?

Maybe if we can figure out the lowest common denominator we can try and figure out where the problem is...

I don't know why your favorites aren't transferring. My car was built around June/July and has transferred the number since I took delivery. I have since had 2 software updates for the Treo and updated the car to CIP 20.

The only differences the software updates made was more reliable pairing with the car's bluetooth system (CIP 20) and a few updated programs (Cingular Treo updates).

I would recommend updating your phone to the latest version (Treo6501b.17, if you are using Cingular) and having your car updated to CIP 20 if your car was built before Sept/Oct 2005. If you continue having the problem after that, then you may need further work done by BMW.

I'm not sure what CIP my car has.. being an October '05 South Africa build I think it's current, but it's certainly no older than CIP 19. Either way, I've never had a problem pairing the phone or keeping it talking to the car. I can place and receive calls with 100% reliability so far.

My Treo already has the most current software.. Treo650-1.20-LAP (it's an unlocked Australian GSM phone) and 01.71 firmware.

I might pay my dealer a visit and see if they can shed any light on the situation.. although I'm definitely not hopeful. They're usually far less technically aware than your average e90post'er.
