What is iDrive and how do I test its functions today?
Am inspecting the car today for a possible trade and final deal. I asked the sales rep to make sure everything is working as it should. I don't quite understand the function of iDrive but I assume it controls all the car's infotainment and assistance programs via software. Am worried about the bugs. Funny but when we first test drove one last December even the parking hold didn't work, much to the embarrassment of the sales agent who was trying to show off this feature.
Any recommendations regarding what to check is welcome. Thanks |

I can't even tell if your post is serious or not.
Do you mean to say that you've been on this forum for 2 months making ridiculous clown posts about how bad the G05 is, answering questions with incorrect information... and you didn't take the time to read about understand the most basic control of all BMWs since they introduced it on the 2001 7 series?! I'd bet money on it that if you walk away today everybody at your dealership will so happy that they will throw a party Then go right down to your Lexus dealership and get yourself that brand new Lexus that will hopefully be as great as your last one and you'll have many happy safe and reliable times together

Other things to be aware of is the round device covered in buttons in front of the Driver makes the wheels turn, and the button next to the shifter makes the engine go "brrrrrrmmmm". Good luck. The CA has already seen you coming. |

I do wish you (and your poor SA) good luck
But in all seriousness 1- Make sure that they set your connected drive account up correctly with all of the features available for your vehicle right from the start. It will eliminate common problems for you later 2- Let them explain all of the features and pay attention, there's a lot to learn with this one and there's a large a learning curve 3- Let them set up a driver profile along with you. You can adjust things and fine tune later, but at least you won't drive home with a car without basic settings. D- Open your mind to try to find positive things on this one instead of the negative. You might be surprised and find you actually like it

Get everything set up with them, take your time and theirs, it will pay off.
Pretty much guarantee they do not have all the bugs worked out, which since you’ve been on the forum a while, you already know. It is a blast to drive! |

Picked up the car today and I now believe the CA when he said of all the luxury cars out there the iDrive system is the easiest and most comprehensive infotainiment, high tech controls system/computer available. This thing is amazing. Ours works perfectly with the latest firmware update. NO bugs, so far and we must have gone thru 100 features/options of iDrive. I wanted something that was intuitive and easy to use and this delivers!
It's also packed full of features. After 30 minutes of being shown "this controls this and here's the option to that" I finally told him we were getting info overload. 65 mile drive home was amazing. I did turn off all assistance features but the Blind Spot. Full thread later with pix....... |

I recommend you turn them all on and see how they work for you. I have had mine a month now and have never had a problem with any of the assistance features.
Something I was wondering about - since the insurance rates are base on the assistance/safety features that a vehicle has, can they deny/reduce coverage if someone has an accident with the features purposely turned off? Seem like they could but have not researched it. |

Not as far as I know. Everything fits underneath the floor and it is at the same level whether you have the spare tire option or not. I have not measured anything to compare the two but nothing seems raised to me.

Thanks. This guy is young and inexperienced but knows the car's features pretty well. He comes up with some pretty weird stuff once in a while. This is the second time he's done a brain fart with us. Gonna point it out to his Sales director. |
