M-Sport Brakes Squeaking
I have noticed my m-sport breaks squeak quit often, I contacted my SA and he's telling me its normal.
Anyone else experiencing this, I don't see how this can be normal. |

When you notice it squeak by chance had you just recently put any kind of shine product on your wheels?

I bedded the brakes when I first got them -- lots of videos on how to do it and discussions on here -- and so far (about 2.5k miles), no squeaking. Maybe try that?

No I haven't done anything to the wheels. I live in the northeast, so we have salt and stuff on the roads. But it just seems to happen almost every time I break. It's extremely annoying!

My experience with MSport brakes is that they do tend to be noisy and VERY dusty. That's why I opted to not order them. Very effective on the track but for normal driving, not needed. You could change the pads to try and make them less noisy.

Noisey? I had 16.3k miles on the X3 M40i and the brakes never made a noise. 1800 miles into my X5 and it's quiet as can be. If you properly bed them (I didn't on my X5) they're very quiet. Non-MSport brakes are so tiny even if you don't need the additional stopping power the size alone should be a reason to buy them.

Are you driving mostly city without any hard braking on the highway? I've noticed BMW brakes like to squeak if all you do is city driving in the 30-50MPH range from stoplight to stoplight. They like to braked hard occasionally going from 80-0 like you would coming off the autobahn...

I had an instance where it sounded like I was dragging a banshee down the highway for a few miles. Sound was coming from rear side. Once I jammed on the brakes it went away.

My dad has got a 440i m sport and had a similar issue. Dealer told him it was a build up of brake dust which is less likely of you drive the car hard as the dust clears more easily. He has found that giving them a good spray with the hose whilst cleaning the car gets rid of it.

If you check some of the other model forums you'll see that this is a common problem. Apparently, when the rotors rust (not sure if it is dust, as I keep my car really clean and it still happens) a bit, they get noisy and start squealing. The only way to get rid of the rust is with heat. If you are in the Northeast (like me) with our current cold temperatures, there is almost no way to build up enough heat in the brakes to clear the rust, so you are stuck with the squealing until spring. My '17 340i with the Track package and Msport brakes does the same thing. No squealing in the spring/summer, but they start squealing late fall and all winter long.

My car is driven almost daily (at least 4 times a week for about 60 miles each time). The car is garage kept too. Note that this is only an issue with the MSport brakes (technically the pads themselves). It could be glazing, which also requires heat to get rid of. I don't brake like a maniac, so that could be part of the problem. Fact is, it seems that no one has come up with a concrete reason why this is happening with the MSport (Blue caliper) brakes/pads.
