How to stop Waze auto starting.

Hi,

I used Waze via CarPlay last week. Now every time I get in the car it's auto starting the Waze app on my phone and running it in the background. I'll suddenly get updates about potholes ahead, etc. Since Waze is a bandwidth and battery hog, I really don't want this running every time I get in the car, or all day night for that matter. I close the app on my iPhone, but after a drive, its running again.

Any thoughts?

Go into the app and manually shut it down, you're keeping it on in the background now which is why

How does Waze honking work? I got honked at last week and don’t know how that works...
