Card Key saved my neck yesterday!

I stupidly left my keys in my office, then took the train home 57 miles, 107 minutes away .

I wasn't looking forward to doing that ride 2 more times to get it.

Nobody was home at my house and the dog was loose and would kill anybody I sent in for them (just doing his job). I didn't really want to do an Uber and leave my car at the Trenton NJ train station overnight....and then I remembered I had the Card Key in my wallet! It worked like a charm and I drove myself home

Does anybody know if that thing needs to be recharged on the mat every so often, or if it's just a chip inside that is detected? It's been in my wallet for 2 months but still worked.

No recharge necessary. It’s just like a credit card and have a credit card works. They also make a great second key to take along on a road trip as it can be in the car and not confuse the profile.

Perfect. Thanks guys. That's what I thought but I wanted to make 100% sure if I F-up again that it's ready.

OP, your post encouraged me to verify that my digital card key works. Held it next to the door handle, door unlocked, sat in the vehicle and it started right up. Questions: it didn't seem to sync with my profile. What action should I take? Also is it necessary to keep the card in the wireless charging tray while it is being used? Any harm keeping it in a wallet next to other credit cards? Thanks.

Go into iDrive and link that key to your profile.

Even though my x5 was an early build and didn't come with one, my Sales Guy ordered one for me. He needed to copy my registration to order it, then gave it to me, no charge.

Funny thing is he offered to have service set it up for me since it was their first one. Just from this forum, I knew already it was the easiest thing to set up and showed him and the service guy how to do it and how it works

If he's a good one like mine is, he should just get it for you.

My little F-up proved the card key's worth even at full retail price though. I'm going to buy it some flowers this weekend.

I talked to mine a little while ago, he got himself up to speed on this and just a minute ago messaged me that he has mine on order... he’s a good one. and thanks to you for bringing this up, I knew about the card but hadn’t pursued it and might not have if you hadn’t brought it up.

That's an Absolute life saver. I was shaking my head : when people were actually complaining about the card key.

It saved me 3+ more hours of train riding, that's for sure.

People just look for things to complain or worry about. I say just enjoy the ride

I would like to order even another key card. I think it’s the best solution as a spare key.
