The one thing I regret about not having Idrive/Nav.
In the 5 ,the 3 with Idrive and some other models, the audible warning is a soothing chime that goes like BBLINNG pause BBLINNG pause BBLINNG, you get the idea,it sounds great, instead of that annoying japanese car like quick beep beep beep.I wish BMW used the same audible warning for the non Idrive version as well.

Just to make sure I understood your post, the non-IDrive e90's make a triple beep warning (more like Honda)?
Why would they do this?

I actually noticed that. The dealer lent my mom a 325 without I-drive for the weekend and first thing I picked up on when I drove it was that it beeped differently.
To tell you the truth, if this is the case and non-I-drive cars have a different beep, I'd rather the regular beep than the I-drive chime. It drives me absolutely nuts. Seriously it was novel for the first week of owning the car but now it's just annoying. I used to drive an Acura and I had no problem with the beep, for god's sake just give me a regular generic car-beep anyday over that spine tingling chime. Especially that seatbelt chime, makes it lots of fun to park your car once you've removed your seatbelt...You almost want to smash the car at 20 kph into the car behind you just to see if that stupid beep will shutup. But now I've gone off-topic. Yeah trust me the I-drive chime isn't all it's cracked up to be. |

I didn't know the non Idrive models had a different chime. I have the Nav and so far everyone who has been in my car has admired the sound it makes.

I'm with you Procureur! I thought the chime was great when I first got into the car. After a little time I hate the thing.
I understand the importance of wearing a seatbelt and all, but this is crazy! I still can't tell though if it's the chime itself, or the amount you hear it. I feel like the car is beeping at me all the time. |
