Don't Update Your Software At The Dealer

Guys,

I have gotten word that BMW's latest M2C dealer update for your car has serious impact on the number of things.

You might have read this topic already :https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...6#post24548886

But there is more. BMW has changed the protocols and locked them again after tuners were able to open them. Therefore ECU tunes and OPF delete measures might not be working anymore after the upgrade is done.

My advice "DON'T UPDATE YOUR CAR". For anyone who has a new car with the latest software, people are working on a solution to fix this situation.

I am not aware what impact this can have on your specific tune or BM3. Each tuner would need to investigate this specifically, but for now if you have to do a dealer service or break-in service. Tell them NOT to update the software in your car until further notice.

Thanks for this Marc. I saw the other post on the steering.

I'll definitely make sure BMW don't update my software on the break-in service in 3 weeks.

I delete my OPF with our custom made exhaust for "testing purposes".
After 200km driving no CEL and NO LIMP mode at all. Maybe this is how the ECU calculates the back pressure wrong and do not throw CEL
Will NOT update the ECU to latest iSTEP. Instead give a try to M3 CS oem map.

Any update on your OPF delete solution?

Yes, testing has started over the past days. It will be released hopefully soon to deal with this rubbish.

Glad I got the heads up on this as my break-in service is tomorrow. Hopefully they allow me to skip it but I do wonder if they'll allow such a thing.

Would love to know if anyone who has done the update was still able to tune via bm3.

What exactly are the issues with the new update? The steering and problems with OPF delete?

This must be EU cars only. We don't have OPF in U.S.

It should happen since else you light loose warranty.

They have closed the protocols again used by tuners to ECU tune your car, so it needs to be opened up again to tune your car again.

I wonder if this true for the N55 M2 as well, or only the M2C DME was relocked?

As of 2019-03, no N55 M2 DME update has been released since mid-late 2017.

DSC update still applies though from M2C.. so might be worth updating and coding that

2mo ago you'll be fine. Update was released just a few weeks ago.

Found this thread over in the F80 forums:
Bootmod3 BM3 tune install issues. Anyone else? https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1593312

It's already locking people out of tuning

Yes i know, but if someone`s also tuning their car then there`s no problem, since that denies warranty anyways. And he was talking about bm3, so should be no problem to just say dont update to BMW and then tune via BM3.

Since the M2C shares the same exact ECU with the M2, I assume this is a retroactive patch the M2 also, on new software updates.

My question is BM3 just cracked the B58 ECU firewall, which uses a different ECU model; does this set the clock back on that motor and future vehicles also..

Feels better that I'm a Dinan piggyback kind of guy..

Can somebody in North America who's taken delivery since this new update or who has updated their DME confirm if the steering feels like crap now?
