Tailgate malfunction

Just now my tailgate started acting up (after resetting the data on the car to factory default to get connected Drive 3d view to work). The lower tailgate won't close fully without being helped to close with a push. When closed fully, it won't open. Took me about 15 minutes to figure out why the top tailgate was not closing, and kept opening like it was hitting something.

Just as a heads up, if your top tailgate keeps popping up like it's hitting something, even though nothing is in the way, give your bottom tailgate a push to make sure it is latched.

Back to the dealers I go

Wanted to give people a heads up so they don’t look stupid like I did in the middle of the lot for 15 minutes

A recall? Is it a wide spread problem or just OPs vehicle that's malfunctioning?

Unacceptable but I was resigned to this on the $100k+ RR for the last 3 years. Expect better from BMW so hoping they fix quickly (individual issue or wide spread)

Since this all started after a data reset, I had the car try and update overnight. It completed an update to 11/2018.68 this morning from .57. It looks like the tailgate issue has resolved. Software can be a real pita sometimes

I'm surprised it was a software fix, and not a bracket that had slightly slid out of alignment. But woot that it got fixed!
