https://www.carscoops.com/2019/03/to...t-are-not-m3s/

Glad to see my car on that list but not sure if I would consider it special.

its "special" because it is the first car to have the B58 engine as the power plant. Since this is going into the A90 Supra its going to become the "new 2JZ", well atleast it might be a while before aftermarket parts get to the level of upgrade support that the 2JZ has right now.

Yea that might be true but the article didn't quite mention that which is why I was perplex by the pick.

Great car, but maybe more worthy of a spot on a top 10 list than a top 5 IMO.

This list is just wrong. The E90 335is and 320si were far more special than any F30. The 340i is just the six cylinder F30. The F30 is one of the more boring 3 series to begin with.

Why do you bother with the F30 forum if you shit on it every chance you get?

Without looking at the link, here's my list:

2002 tii - paved the way for the german sports coupe
E31 850CSi - It's just that famous
Z8 - instant classic
E30 320is - birth of the modern yuppie car
E92 335is - the best non-M 3 series made yet.

edit: Well, that was misleading. Best non-m 3 series. I got one right!

Because I have an F30 and I don't think the F30 is a bad car. It just has bad steering and stock suspension. You don't have to pretend the car you happened to purchase is the best car in the world. Also, I work on my own car so I like staying up to date with common issues and modifications.

Electronic steering on the 340i is pretty darn good. I do recall the 2014 328i steering felt disconnected

I've test-driven plenty of 2017 and 2018 340i with THP, without, and everything in between. I was planning on getting one since the G20 was not going to have a manual transmission. I eventually decided there was no point. The steering is marginally better and still very disconnected. Since I had the M Perf suspension, the B58 was the only compelling update, IMO.

Hello BMW Experts!

I have two nominations.
1979 BMW 635csi (Euro)
- Great looks from outside, great greenhouse from within.
- Real Reccaro leather sport seats.
- M1 block (shorter stroke, stonger), regular SOHC head.
- Dog-leg close ratio 5-speed!
- And best, got me invited to a party by two girls on my first drive!

BMW 2002tii (nominating for #1)
- Engine sound gave me Red Baron feelings.
- Greenhouse that didn't need a sun roof.
- Front & rear controllable; had to control the front & rear!
- Steering feel to make an F30 owner cry. Not real accurate, but that's another story....
- Front brakes from the Bavaria.
- As easy to re-build as a VW Beetle.

Murf

I can't agree with you more. The electric steering column in my 340i is absolutely amazing. I would never guess it was electric.

My 18 340 is my favorite BMW, and it is not my first BMW. If you do not like the 340 that is your opinion, I do not think many people really care, I will happily keep my F30 340. BTW, I am in a 2019 Jaguar this week, and I do like a lot about it, but I miss my 340. Say what you will, but that damn 340 is fast as hell, and I would rather be driving it than this Jaguar.

Really? It is pretty bad when I compare it to the Z4 or 135i.

I've driven just about any car you can think of from a 1940 Cadillac limo to a commercial truck to a Toyota Corolla to the e chassis BMW to modern, mustang's Subaru, fiats, BMW, and so on. The steering on the 340i is honestly pretty good and to say it terrible is truly just a very clouded or limit opinion.

I have had 20 BMWs and many more vehicles of all makes and types. My current BMW is one of the best of all the cars.

Among the BMWs, I have to say my 2018 340i xDrive M Perf Edition is certainly in the top 5, maybe even the top 3. Sometimes, the older cars (eg 2002s) hold fond memories, but the reality of owning them at the time was a bit more jaundiced - reliability and tuning issues, rust, and a bare bones vehicle (no A/C, crank windows, crank sunroof, problems with alignment, etc).

It's loads better than the hydraulic steering that was in my E92 335i coupe.

I think some people don't know what steering wheel feedback actually feels like. Most just think heavy steering is good. Driven anywhere near the limits, no F30 will give any meaningful feedback from the wheel. It's not the end of the world, but it's a fact.

Maybe to you it's a fact, but I know what a good steering rack feels like. My Dad owned an AMG GTC before his Bentley. That had a hydraulic rack, and it was pretty great.

My previous Lexus IS350 F Sport had great turning but 0 feel. My F30 has great feel AND great turn in. Maybe it's the ZHP package?
