M-Sport Package

Curious to see the poll here. I for one, have never owned a BMW without the package, nor a Benz w/o AMG. I'm all about the aggressive lines / aero kits, shadowline trim, wheels, rear deck spoilers, slight add in performance, etc.
The X7 M, actually comes w/ a M- tweaked transmission. When I choose sport mode and move shifter to the the left, the M colors appear on the dash and shifting much more aggressive.

We’ve also had several M’s and AMG’s, but I really dislike the black trim on the side and back of the X7 sport — unless the car itself is black. For that reason, I went with Luxury on this one.

It all boils down to each his own.

I too don't love the black trim. I did however get M-Sport brakes. So glad that was a stand-alone option. I also feel the area underneath the front grille on the M is not great looking. I don't like how the points go up and into the fog lights. If you chose black than at least you can't see that as much.

Definitely M-sport for me. This is why there's different options for different tastes. Me, I love everything about the M-sport and its associated options, but the biggest things for me are that I think the black shadowline trim looks much better, particularly on the color(s) I would be considering. Especially white. I think too much chrome looks tacky. And the front lower intake to me looks more muscular and athletic on the m-sport.

The one and only thing I wish you could get with the m-sport is the black 752 wheels, to match the black shadowline trim.

I do like the shadow line trim around the windows. In some of the promotional photos they released, it showed chrome trim around the bottom of the side panels (Luxury) but with black shadow line trim around the windows (sport). A hybrid I guess. That would’ve been my preference, but alas, that wasn’t offered.

We have a horse race so far, but M is pulling strong, as M always does.

Personally my wife wasn't a fan of the chrome on the lux package so losing the chrome and adding the benefits of the M package was a no brained for us. We will most likely add the blacked out grill like I've seen a few others on here too.

As the X7 is a pure-play family luxury car, dressing it up as an M feels like a big disconnect.

This is true. And IMHO, BMW has diluted the M badge by introducing several "pseudo levels" of M. There's M accessories (i.e. M-sport package, mostly body kits), pseudo-M engines (i.e. upcoming M50i engine) and then "true" M vehicle models (i.e. X5M). Even then, I leave quotes around the "true", as you can decide for yourself if a big X5 SAV is a true spirit of the BMW M sports car tradition.

So, with that thinking, I have no problem buying the "M-sport" package, which in my mind, does not make my car an "M" in any sense at all. Just a "sport" package, and even then, again, mostly just a body kit.

No way will I be one of those wannabe pukes and slap a fake M badge on the back of my X7.

Whhhhyyyyy do people do that?? Anyone who appreciates what the M means knows theirs isn’t an M model and laughs at them, and anyone who thinks it’s real doesn’t know what M means anyway. Same with the faux AMG badges. I love when I see an E350 with an AMG logo.

There's no M badge if you get the M package on x7. Completely irrelevant comment...

When I see the M badge on the back of a non-M car, I shake my head and wonder what message they are trying to convey. To me it is stupid.

I've had the M Sport package on my last four BMW's and the thought of buying the M badge to slap on the rear has never crossed my mind. If I want an "authentic" M badge, I'll buy a true M car.

Wild Blue's comment: totally relevant!

BMW puts M badges on the fenders of 3 and 4 Series M Sport models in Europe. Not saying it’s right or wrong but it is how BMW themselves have decided to brand the M Sport line in those markets.

You totally missed the point. Yes, there's no M badge for the M-sport package. Was referring to those people who buy an aftermarket M badge and stick it on the back of any given BMW, like it somehow makes their car any different.

Read the posts.

I feel no disconnect at all, I think it adds a little "flava" to the "borish" SUV world. In addition to the sport kit and wheels, I especially like the sporty nature of the M transmission mode that it has.

As far as others talking about slapping M badges on non M cars, totally agree! Total poser bs...

Personally, I think the chrome on lux black X7s is too much. On the other hand, the BMW configurator pic of white m-sports initially looked a little awkward to me (particularly the black strip on the sides). However, real world pics look pretty good. We ordered a mineral white m-sport, go figure.
