A Classic in the Making
My son's lease car will be turned in 9 months from now. Only has just under 15k miles total...one car he has in a multi-car house. With no more sticks coming (other than M3) wondering if this is a keeper...very well contented....thoughts/opinions?

Very nice spec. If it was a ZHP car I'd tell you to buy it no matter what - as is still a very strong consideration to keep.

When all the F80 MT have depreciated to 1/3 their msrp then start to skyrocket in value and no one can afford them, perhaps a non M would become a classic. better store that car for a long time

15k miles in 9 months?! Might be better off buying anyway since he is on track to be 15k over his miles if he maxed his lease to 15k/year. What's the miles penalty on the F30 now? 15k*$0.27 = $4,050.

I'm not following your logic. One can supposedly still get a manual trans M3 in the G20 generation (when it launches), so the prior gen wouldn't be that special. It's for the non-M cars, such as the M340i, that a manual trans, well-contented car would become more unusual. What am I mis-understanding about your thought, please?

No problem and thanks for clarifying! This was one reason why I thought it might be desirable as a low-mileage stick! Perhaps I'm overestimating its appeal? Residual is ~$29k nine months from now. Was thinking of buying it for fun and eventual rarity over time...

One thing to keep in mind BMW is offering incentives for lease buy outs now. I just got $4k on my F31 free money. Son might need to buy though if you have different addresses, or co-sign for it then change the title later. My wagon was weird since it was leased in dad's name but he's gone so think they just made it work for me to easily buy it, not sure exactly how they facilitated that.

No F30 will be worth a ton of money, they made way to many of them.
I also understand it's a manual, but F80 prices would always fall right on top of this car and I don't see the value. Also not sure there will be a nostalgic F30 fan down the road willing to pay, given the platforms questionable driving dynamics compared to other BMWs. By all means, enjoy the car! But not with the intent of selling it for 50k 5 years from now.
