Jordan Peterson, Genius!

I’ve only just come across this guy and I’m quite blown away by the way he manages to fight the corner of men, without being in any way misogynistic!

People like him are really needed in this age of positive discrimination against men from looney lefty “feminists”!

If you aren’t aware of him, he has plenty of videos on YouTube, this is a great channel 4 interview in which he makes Cathy Newman look quite silly!

Same here, you best have two of those prizes. It was interesting to watch how careful he was with his language and how she took specific sections, pieced them together, and gave them a new meaning to throw back.

That interview is very embarrassing for Newman.

It seemed like Newman had it in her head from the start that "I'm going to prove this man wrong" and she kept misquoting him and drawing conclusions he didn't make.

Yep she'd decided what she was going to do before the guy had opened his mouth, she then spent the interview putting words in his mouth and ended up looking stupid.

So what you're saying is......(no Cathy that's not it at all)

That's a painfully tedious interview, but watching snippets it did seem that Newman had little idea how to interview Peterson for any constructive purpose.

Repeatedly spinning/misquoting someone's points isn't interviewing or debate, it's just amateurish.

Oh that's just beautiful - I hadn't seen that on my skim-through.

Open mouth.
Stare at the ceiling.
"I'm just trying to work that out"
Is there anything left in my head.
No.
Peterson : "gotcha".
Case closed.

This is just modern journalism, take a snippet out of context and make it the headline/click bait/controvesy.

Stokes up so much negativity and misinformation. Then there are too many people who are either too lazy or too stupid to look beyond the headline to question the reality of the claim being made.

I started watching that, thought I'd give it a couple of mins, and ended up watching the lot and thoroughly enjoying it. I loved the precision with which he made his points, and wish I could be more like that.
Lots of folk seem to think pedantism is like precision, but that just shows how important and different it is.

There was some really fascinating topics they touched upon, such that I immediately ordered his book when I finished.

Yes absolutely, the media are so desperate for attention that they just make stuff up to get a story! It used to be just the tabloids that did it, but now they're all at it!

It's this shit that feeds the trolls, feminists, socialists, looney lefties, witch hunters etc. on social media. Sometimes I'm not sure if I really like modern life!

Yeah I guessed I may be a bit late to the party, going by the number of views his videos have, but better late than never I guess!

Listening to it a second time, it all seems to be going well until 02:30 at which point Jordan having said that the YouTube audience to his videos having been predominantly male (because that's the nature of YouTube - it's mostly men, duh), Newman immediately comes back saying "isn't that divisive?". There really was no need for her to say that and from that point she comes across as just projecting her own view on to whatever response he comes up with.

He's very good and very balanced I don't see him as a defender of "men" just a defender of the need to have a balanced debate in the increasingly polarised media world.

Programmes like CH4 news shouldn't be going down this route of sensationalising debates, especially when you have serious individual who has huge amounts of knowledge on the subject in front of you.

I think it's fine when they unmask a charlatan with extreme/odd views but Newman missed the mark badly and ended up painting herself in that light.

My wife just watched it and was getting very frustrated with Cathy Newman. She said it's attitudes like this which undermine her own credibility.

And after 5 mins it was surprising that she hadn't really learned that lazy twisting of things to imply whatever sensationalist soundbite she was after just wasn't going to work.

Having watched a second time what really impressed with was that at no time did he patronise her or suggest that the presenter was stupid or didn't understand. It's very hard not to get personal in heated debate, and it would have been ammunition that undermined him.

He comes across as a person who is fully in control of himself, I often look out for that in my meetings and it's not often you come across that trait, impressive guy.

What put me off watching the whole thing was not Peterson (he rationalised and vocalised his points very clearly) but the petty attempts at points-scoring and words-twisting from Newman. I didn't have the stomach (or time for it) today, but Peterson and a competent interviewer would hopefully be a more enjoyable debate.

It is worth watching it, I saw it go out live as I always watch Ch4 news (to get another perspective ) I watched it again today (lunch hour obvs) and it gets better on a second viewing.
