Anyone know what causes this sunroof error?

This just popped on today. The sunroof with open to vent mode but will not open into the other mode (fully open). Even to get it into vent mode I have to hit the button twice. Holding it once opens it half way then stops, holding it again opens it the rest of the way. Anything I can do to fix this myself? Apparently the anti-trapping mechanism is malfunctioning.

Press the 'tilt up' button, wait for sunroof to rise, continue to hold it, the sunroof will rise another 1/2", continue to hold the button, sunroof will go through the entire open and close sequence"

That should reset it.

Amazing things happen when you search for sunroof error.

That's about the only advice I've seen here regarding that error. You should probably take it to the dealership and have them look at it. Unless the dealership is prohibitively far from you, in which case, try again?

One more try and make sure that you keep the car on and running.

Doubtful as this is a thirty second fix. Who knows, your whole sunroof might need to get replaced and you may have that loaner for a month.

I'm sure it usually is a thirty second fix, but I tried it three times and it didn't work, so the issue won't be fixed with that 30 second reset. It was definitely worth trying though.

it happened to me once!! I went to Bavaria and it didn't cost me anything!! It's a 5 minutes matter!! it's some combination of pressing and holding of the buton they are doing to reset the trap!!
They told me it happened because i hold the button too much or i repeatetly pushd the button and the computer didn't know what to do anymore!!
So , goodluck!!
