Ok, as I have time (so irregularly), I am going to collect in a somewhat organized way some of the bugs I am seeing using videos, pics, and descriptions. Each of these bugs, issues, concerns, confusions, etc. will be tagged and each will generally be forwarded to BMW simultaneously with being posted here, both to BMW Canada while they are still talking to me as well as to my excellent local Waterloo, ON, Canada BMW dealer ... so this won't be just us bitching to each other here.

Here are the first videos, they are pretty self-explanatory.

20190604-01 on 3/2019.45:

20190604-02 on 3/2019.45:

20190605-03 on 3/2019.45:

20191216-01 on 11/2019.40: Does not switch to forward camera when placed in Drive (at low speed!):

20191216-02 on 11/2019.40: Does not switch to forward camera when placed in Drive at low speed, BUT then switches to forward camera as one drives a few 10s of meters or higher speed!

Great constructive feedback instead of plain b****ing. Kudos to you for sharing and simultaneously sending these out to BMW. Hopefully such feedback will be appreciated by them and they fix these s/w issues in the coming updates.

Perhaps I am not fully alert at this point, but am not sure that #2 & #3 are ‘bugs’.

You obviously have Waze set up to alert like a cell phone call so that takes over the screen. There are times this is welcome, but the problem as I see it is that Waze does not give us better options. I say this as someone who puts my iPhone X into the charging tray with Waze open which means I have to clear Apple Pay several times a trip.

In terms of #3, I think even my F15 was the same. If I want forward camera I have to press the Parking cameras going in. If I stop and reverse then I must repeat the process. I do not know the logic behind this maneuver but it is consistent.

For 20190604-02, every other car on the planet NEVER turns off reverse camera while car is in reverse FOR ANY REASON WHATSOEVER. Ok, I don't know about every other car, but every car I've owned and rented to date, so at least a dozen models with reverse cameras. They figured it out. So yes, definitely a bug and a significant safety one at that.

For 20190605-03, if you start this sequence by REVERSING, it all works correctly — rear camera on when in reverse, front camera on when in drive automatically. But when you start as shown in the video, it fails to autoswitch to forward camera in drive. Other cars do it right, although I've only driven a couple of other cars with front cameras. It doesn't matter if BMW did it wrong in other models as well. So yeah, a bug. One might ask what the logic should be instead: a) most cars are simplistic: switch to forward camera whenever gear is shifted to drive, switch to reverse camera whenever gear is shifted to reverse — that works well; or b) for a bit more sophistication, but at a risk of more corner cases, same logic they've already used elsewhere: switch to forward camera whenever gear is shifted to drive AFTER gear was just in reverse.

I believe this is a coding issues. BimmerCode allows you to set the distance and speed at which the top view and rear view camera changes/stops. I would be interested to know at what point in time (distance/speed) the camera switches back to front or just closes PDC.

My car is out for PPF and have only had it two days so I honestly don't know.

Really appreciate the videos!!

Assuming you're referring to bug 20190605-03, it never automatically switches to front camera. It does time out with speed and distance (as default and as can be adjusted/coded with BimmerCode), and you can manually press the PDC button to eventually manually get the front view, but it never automatically switches to front camera in that use case.

Before the update to 2019/07.55 my g05 was on 2019/03.43 or so and it would show the camera immediately depending on the gear you were in. Now it goes from rear to front camera a split second before the camera turns off (unless you hit a wall first) and it's not coded with bimmercode

Hi LexxM3. The first bug isn’t really a bug as much as UI design weakness. By choosing the camera view on the hood of the car (with the A on it) you’re selecting the “Automatic” option where the view changes based on the driving situation (e.g. how the view changes when you pull into a parking space or garage). To change to the front camera, use the other camera button next to the shifter (the one without a light next to it) and make sure you’re in drive/driving forward.
