Thermostat replacement advice needed
Hi guys
I'm going to be replacing my thermostat over the next day or two as my car 335d isn't reaching anywhere near temp, it's only getting upto 66-70 when driving, sat in traffic it will rise to 75-80 max then as soon as I start driving again it's back down to below 70 I know their are 2 thermostats on these, the main one and the one on the EGR cooler so the advice I need is as follows please I'm going to be blanking my EGR cooler off today as I know it's a must on these cars and the DPF has already been done so not sure why the EGR wasn't done at the same time Since the EGR cooler will be blanked off do I still need to replace the thermostat on the EGR cooler or just the main thermostat? I'm just a bit unsure whether the EGR one still needs the thermostat or not once it's blanked off Thanks guys and don't know how I'd manage without this forum |

You can leave the egr thermostat alone. Better yet, instead of blanking off the egr, get the racepipe kit (keep the asv) then you can toss that whole egr cooler assembly in the trash *and* your thermostat replacement will be a lot easier.

What's the asv mate? Also where would I get that kit from? I'm just about getting my head around blanking the EGR pipes off and exhaust blanking plate, removing it all sounds hard haha

Here's the DIY I used: https://cdn.bimmerpost.com/forums/at...8;d=1405023251
It's honestly really simple to do. Installing a race pipe requires a tune, if you're not ready to tune yet I would buy the egr block off plates for now and install those since you have to remove the egr to get the thermostat out.

Polite correction.
... have to remove EGR cooler to get the thermostat out. I would take a good long look at the harmonic damper while you have everything out of the way. Look for any evidence of cracking in the rubber. |

The ASV is the "anti-shudder valve" and it's attached to the EGR value. Most but not all delete kits keep the ASV. It can prevent a runaway diesel, a rare but memorable occurrence. |

OP, look into the BMW SULEV Warranty. It’s a 15 year/ 150,000 miles. I think the thermostat is covered. Just check to see if your car/model, and where your located is on the list. Good luck.
