I only look good on paper...

Luxury seating, ventilated with Massage...wow
Reality - very subtle even on highest setting, won't blow cold air.
Laser headlights...wow
Reality - can't tell any difference with regular LED headlights,
although the daytime running lights are better.
315mm wide rear tires...wow
Reality - somehow they don't look as wide as it should, or I would
like, maybe the car is really wide/optical illusion.
21" rims..wow
Reality -they don't look that big, looks regular, 22" looks better
for a car this size.
Driver assist pro, traffic jam assist...wow
Reality - must keep looking at the road or it'll disengage, defeats
purpose.
Auto parking, auto reverse...wow
Reality - never use it once, haven't encounter a situation to use
Digital instrument cluster...wow
Reality - not really configurable, the map in center is a joke
compare to mercedes, audi, range rover/jaguar.

I’ll compare...

Coming from a 2018 Q5 the 2019 BMW X5 does EVERYTHING on your list MUCH better. Go drive a 2018-19 Audi Q5 then get back to me 😂

Actually, I like everything about it, even the gauge cluster, just that it could have been much better if they looked at what others are doing.

I can only give those opinions by owning one, I wouldn't qualify to give these opinions without driving it for a while. See my other post :

Reality - If Tesla had driver attention monitors like the X5, it probably wouldn't have had the two DECAPITATIONS of the drivers who had autopilot engaged, completely handsfree and eyesfree while their cars slammed into crossing trucks.

How about a 2016 Q5. We generally keep our cars 5 years or more and 100K miles, but we are both so ready to let the Q5 go early for a new G05. Even though the Q5 is a great vehicle it feels ancient compared the the new X5, or for that matter to our son and daughter-in-law's new Subaru Ascent. I know these are first world problems, as there's absolutely nothing wrong with our Q5, but it's just a matter of time before we make the switch.

My order was placed last week, and I did extensive research on this forum prior to making a decision. Here is my take. Yes, things look good on paper. Marketing will win over innovation. Always does. If we are lucky, innovation will force things to be better for everyone, but many people are drawn to the marketing and end up paying for innovation that's oftentimes half-baked or not mature enough for prime time. These companies have to follow the market trends because they don't want to be viewed as lagging behind the competitors.

Driver assist pro, traffic jam assist, auto parking, auto reverse, etc. These technologies are just not ready for prime time today, in my opinion. I'm not sure why some people think they will just work flawlessly out of the box. In my view, if someone wants a car to do everything for him/her, then a BMW is a wrong choice because its core identity is its performance. Just go with Tesla. Elon's software seems to be top notch in the car industry. My friend who owns a model 3 brags about the technologies and software all the time. (and I hate it when it calls his model 3 as 'M3')

Lastly, car companies have to sell options in order to make more money, so they will just offer you all kinds of crap that you don't even use. It's your choice.

Thank you for your opinion. You just saved me $1200 on my build for Luxury Seating Package.

You should try them before ruling them out. OP made them sound vanilla, which they are not.

absolutely agree to try it before dismissing it. We didnt get it and so what wish we did. it was only a $850 charge for us since we got the extended merino. Not a deal breaker, but if we had the option we would of gotten it.

Yup. I would pay $1200 for the luxury seating package again without hesitation. It's not blowing cold air at your back like some other cars, but after a short while they get uncomfortably cold. For a long trip this keeps my back at the perfect temperature.

My older SL had a similar ventilation system to the BMW, and my Escalade had the higher pressure A/C. I was thrilled for the Cadillac system at first, but then it starts to freeze me out even at the lowest setting, so I had to keep turning it on and off. In the X5, I keep it on for my entire 2 hour drive to Vero Beach each week, and I'm comfortable for the whole drive.

I guess the only complaint about that part is when getting into a super hot car, it takes a little longer to get comfortable. And the massaging seats, they are great over a 2 hour drive.

It seems that some people assume that ventilated seats mean "air conditioned seats", but that's not how they're designed. Cabin air is passed through the seat perforations and provides a cooling effect to reduce the temperature rise that would otherwise occur between the seat and the driver's and/or passenger's back. I personally would not want chilled air coming through my seats!

I meant in traffic jam assist, where traffic is crawling, anything under 25mph it should let me take my eyes off the road for longer periods.

I guess that's how BMW designed it, my Jag F Pace has the cool air come out, and in my opinion it feels way better/more effective in the summer.

I know that everybody can't pay attention to the road for 5 seconds, but as a motorcycle rider, I appreciate that it tries to keep you engaged. I have a 120db horn to get all of the cages engaged in what they are supposed to be doing. Assistance is exactly that in todays day an age, assistance. (getting off my soap box)
