330e Charging

Hi, does anyone know what wattage the new 330e will charge at? As I understand it, the old one charged at 3.6 kilowatts but I can’t find any specifications for the G20.

It’s the same as the old one, unfortunately...

Thanks, oh well, I can get a cheaper charger at home, at least!
I’m having a real difficult time finding any information on the G20 330e, I haven’t seen anything official yet even though the car is available to order as of July.

Delivery times

Yep, they’re available to order now, I was told September/October for delivery if ordered late June, which seems quite quick to me! There seem to be a fair few people posting much earlier deliveries than originally promised.... I’m going to go for a 7KW charger, in case we get another electric car that can take more charge. Or you can get 22KW chargers for about £900!

The current BMW brochures don’t reference the 330e at all. I’m still waiting to get proper BIK company car tax out of them. In theory a car on non-RFT tyres should be in the 40-69 bracket which is only 8% BIK. Although the M Sport Plus does look pretty nice too, still only 12% for 2020/21

BMW’s official wall charger box info. They’re way more expensive than other options...

Yikes that BMW charger is expensive! And you still need a subscription on top of that to get all the features! There’s some interesting information in there though, thanks.
My current favourite to get is this one from EO: https://www.eocharging.com/eo-mini-pro
It seems crazy to me that BMW aren’t making more fuss about hybrids.
I was told I’d get mine in September, though I’ve not had any updates yet. Once the build starts there should be automatic emails at key stages.

Ah, you’ve already ordered. Cool! What spec did you go for? Any view on the ride comfort for a standard M Sport (18” non-RFT)? I’ve struggled to find a local dealer that has a bog standard M Sport, they’re all tricked up with adaptive suspension and 20” wheels!?

Assuming the 330e M Sport does fall into 8% BIK and the ride is ok I’ll probably go for that and spend the extra £4K I can put in for a few option packs.

If not I’ll have to bite the bullet and order the M Sport Plus pack, probably with HK audio and the Driver Pro assistance stuff which is useful for all the motorway miles I do. Crazy how much BMW charge for the latter. My wife’s (now) 6 year old Golf had adaptive cruise as standard!?

Mine's got all the boxes ticked: https://configure.bmw.co.uk/en_GB/configid/y3g8l4p3/G20
BMW moving to packs rather than individual options isn't doing my wallet any good, but then that's the point, isn't it? There's something I have a real requirement for in each pack.
I can't help much with the ride comfort, I'm afraid. My current car is an E89 Z4 M Sport with 19" RFT, and that's hard enough that I want a bit of comfort, so I've gone with adaptive to give myself some options. The consensus here seems to be adaptive is good unless you want as sporty as possible so I'm happy with my decision.
Most of my driving is motorway these days too. It's a shame the G20 driver assistance pack doesn't include traffic jam assist, at least, it doesn't seem to in the UK.
I forgot to say, I heard that mine has a build slot now and is expected mid-September.

Wow, exciting! Not too long to wait! Thanks for sharing your config, will take a look later.

Yeah unfortunately our company car policy only allows a small amount of personal “uplift” so I’m capped at around £4K of options on a 330e M Sport (around £45k). Surprisingly the Sport is slightly more expensive to lease and SE only a tiny bit cheaper. Presume depreciation differences...

BMW came back to me today on the BIK. Apart from the 330e SE on 17” wheels (8% BIK) all other models are 12% BIK. Still makes it a no brainer compared to any other engine option. Be interesting to see what actual electric range you get. I tried a 225xe demo and struggled to get more than 15 miles out of it, was quite quick though!

I’ve finally managed to get a demo of a standard 320d M Sport this weekend (by having to go all the way to Chelmsford!?) so we’ll see whether the ride is ok or if I have to go adaptive. I guess you’re already used to the bumps! :-)

My take is the Drive Assistance will do traffic jam stuff. It will slow/stop/start the car and provide lane centering, even at slow speeds. Both a Peugeot 508 and Toyota RAV4 I tried did this pretty well, you just have to gently hold the wheel and it steers around bends, I found it made long motorway journeys a lot more relaxing but my wife hated it. Every now and then it got things a bit wrong so you still need to keep an eye out, especially in roadworks/narrow lanes..

It’d be a nice change if the government was joined up enough to incentivise hybrids a bit more.
The way I see it, if the battery range is even half what’s advertised then I stand a chance of saving a quarter of my petrol bill and that’s without charging every night, which I plan to. So yes, it’s going to be interesting to find out!
Good luck with the test drive, I hope it’s softer than my Z4!
I think you’re right about the driver assistance, it seems odd though that non-UK G20s have it, as do UK models like the X2, which is older and other models that are newer. Oh well. I know what you mean about it sometimes getting it a bit wrong, I drove a Hyundai that would steer itself right up until it said ‘NOPE!’ and you had to take over. 😁

I think they kind of are to a point. If you could actually get a Hyundai Niro or Kia Niro (or whatever) then they’re meant to do 250+ miles in reality and only 2% BIK. All for < £30k. That’s quite an achievement and would certainly do me for most of my journeys, if you could put up with the pig ugly looks ;-) I guess I’m lucky to work for a company with a car scheme, not that many do but our scheme still has no full electric options, yet. We even have a few charge points at work, although not enough!? We end up with charger rage... ;-)

What they should really do is properly incentivise people to buy (bigger discounts on proper electric vehicles), provide free home charge points and provide government-level investment in a national charging infrastructure. It’s totally possible and would lead the way globally. I think I heard that we are now <50% reliant on old skool power production (fossil fuels). No reason why that couldn’t be <10% in 5 years time, with some focus...

I had 530e for the test drive the other week. I had it fully charged from wall socket during the night. when unplugged - it showed 19 miles (it was beginning of June). although in theory it should be 29.
if 330e will make me 19 miles of electrical range, I think I will forget what the petrol station is. My daily commute is like 5 miles a day one way

So the old 330e was meant to have a 30 mile range under the old NED measuring policy, I think people actually got 15-20 miles out of it. The new 330e is measured under WLTP which should be more accurate. That indicates between 35 and 41 miles depending on wheel/tyre combo. I'd hope that 25 miles is possible given the battery capacity is 30% more than the old 330e.

Looks like we're all taking a leap of faith by ordering something no one has actually tried or properly tested :-)

I think 530e should be very similar to 330e.

I think a leap of faith is about right! I’m surprised there’s still so little information about the 330e specifics. Which brings me back to where this thread started.
I’m expecting the G20 330e to have better range than the 530e. We’ll see if I’m disappointed 😁
The company I work for is leasing Tesla 3s now which is good but I can’t come to terms with that dash. I’ve always been if the view that there are some things that are the drivers business not communal. 🤪

Me too, 530e is bigger, heavier and has been around for longer so assuming the 330e will have further improvements. Not sure what sized battery a 530e has? The BMW website indicates 5-6 miles less range than for the 330e but similar energy consumption (3.5 miles/KwH) so can only assume 330e has a bigger battery.

I wish my company was more forward thinking, there are no full electric vehicles available at all and only a couple of charging points in the Bracknell office (which houses 1000+ people). It's under review apparently... Everyday there is a queue of people waiting to charge...

I ordered mine yesterday, dealer is indicating late August/early September for delivery. Surprised at how quick this is but I guess a lot of people wouldn't order a car they haven't driven so they've probably got a fair few build slots...

I've not really seen many G20's on the road and I do 2k miles/month, wonder how well they're selling?

Hmm, is yours a personal or company purchase? Mine is the latter. Don’t know if maybe the lease companies bag up a number of production slots or whether each order just goes into a FIFO queue...

We shall see I guess, late August does sound very soon, surely they’d kind of have to be building it now!? :-) I’ve always waited 3 months+ for a BMW factory order in the past...
