Quick question about cargo room in the E90 (moving furniture)
I drive an E90, obviously not an ideal car to be transporting furniture in but it's my only option. I'm buying a desk and dresser from someone on Craigslist and I need to pick it up from their place.
Width: 55 1/8 " / 140 cm Depth: 25 5/8 " / 65 cm Height: 28 3/4 " / 73 cm Width: 31 5/8 " / 80 cm Depth: 19 " / 48 cm Height: 48 3/8 " / 123 cm Both pieces will be disassembled completely and--as you can see in the pictures--the components are fairly slim and flat. However, I'm not sure if the E90 would be able to fit them, particularly the 48" long piece. I'd really prefer to pick up instead of setting up a shipper/etc. What do you guys think? |

I know you said that your e92 is the only option, but are you sure you want to try and do this? Why don't you just rent a U-haul pickup for 19.99 a day and be done with it?
As for the fold down seats; all e92's have fold down seats. The CW package only adds the ski bag. Look on page 89 of the manual. |

By the way, I had that exact same drawer set for about eight years (go Ikea! ). It's a huge pita to take apart, especially all the drawers. I doubt there's any way you can transport that thing in the trunk of any car. The side and back pieces are 4 feet long. Not to mention that the big piece of the desk is almost 5 feet long. Good luck with that...

how about renting a zipcar? You could rent a xB or a tacoma or even a minivan. It would swallow the furniture whole without any dismantling or damage risk to your rear car.

I drive an E90, not an E92.
I would rent a UHaul or something but the only thing is, I'm transporting this almost 200 miles (from NYC to upstate NY). Renting the UHAUL is going to cost me almost $300. |

I tried to fit a 48"x12" shelf into my trunk the other day (no folding seats) and it failed to fit. Should have taken the minivan...

This is so frustrating. Zip car won't work for me either (takes to long to be approved, annual fee, etc.).
Shaddai- Would the shelf have fit into the backseat? methodtim- If I were to take the dresser by itself on one trip, do you think it would fit into the backseat? I didn't think it would fit in the trunk, I'm just wondering if something that's 55" long would be able to fit lengthwise into the back. |

I ended up using the back area behind the front seats. I'll never do it again. It didn't damage anything but it could have.
E90 + home depot = fail. No folding rear seats sucks. I didn't realize how much until then.

are you dreaming? maybe you can fit the 1 item at a time if you disassemble them. I bought a fairly large computer desk from bestbuy, not assembled yet. so I have to destroy the box, and piece by piece, all fit in the trunk. they all looked at me funny though

Split folding seats does come with the cold weather package but they are a separate option as well.

My rear seats dont fold and I dont have the cold weather package. My e90 didnt even come close to fitting a mini fridge i tried to move around couple weeks ago. The trunk is suprisingly small.

Maybe you could lay the passenger seat back all the way down and stack the boards there. One end could rest in the passenger foot well to stabilize them. You may have to lay down the driver's seat while you're loading to get them in and twisted into position. If you're carrying a passenger, they could sit in the back seat behind you.
I only mention this because you said it's your only option. I know I'd damage something trying this. You don't have a friend with a larger vehicle who could help you? |

Craigslist the old stuff and buy new stuff when you get there. Even if you did zipcar it would cost $120 for a trip that long. You can get a new dresser for that much money
