Tire Rubbing After on Dinan springs

Hey guys, just got Dinan springs and bumpstops installed on my 16 340ix. I’m experiencing some tire rubbing when turning all the way left or right. For instance, when u-turning. I’m running stock 400m wheels with 225/45 18 tires. Is this normal? It’s not really all that bad rn but Im considering going with 19s in the near future. Is this going to be an issue?

your 19's will have a better offset to accommodate bigger tires. You need to get spacers or different wheels to fix the rubbing.

I've had dinan springs for a while now with 19in wheels no problems with rubbing with 225/30/19 and 255/35/19 tires. I believe the fronts are +35mm and rears are +40mm. Only problem I had was the inside of the spokes of the rears were hitting the calipers so i had to get a 10mm spacer, but still no rubbing.

Do you guys read that the OP is on a stock 400m wheel with stock tires. It should not rub at all.

Not 100% sure but I think it’s inside shoulder rubbing on the inner fender wall. It’s seems like it’s only doing it when wheel is full lock left (Turned all the way left).

+1 Rubbing should not occur. How many miles does your vehicle have? Regular shocks or M Adaptive?

Just over 34k miles. Car is a m sport with non-adaptive suspension.

Seems like the consensus is that there shouldn’t be any rubbing. I will be taking the car back to my installer to take a look. Does anyone know why rubbing would occur in this instance? Alignment, installation issue? Any input would be appreciated.

Yes no rubbing with my Dinan setup either. However, I am running them with Koni Yellows. In my 19" summer setup (Bmw type 407 rim), I am running them with 12 mm spacers for both front and rear, and no rubbing. In my winter setup, I run them with 18" (BMW 397 type rim), and no spacers, and still no rubbing.

Is there a slight chance that your car is still under warranty?

I suggest to perform a thorough inspection of front suspension components to identify any departures from factory specifications.

One of the front shocks - in a rare case as the mileage is low - could be leaking lowering the vehicle enough to cause rubbing.

Thanks for the insight. Car is still under 50k new car warranty until 5/2020 and additional 1 year CPO after.

Will dealer still cover suspension faults after springs have been installed? My belief is that the suspension warranty is voided. I will check to make sure.

Returning first to the installer would be most likely the best option as long as the installer is qualified to perform detailed suspension diagnostics.

If a warrantied part is identified as the culprit, the next steps are not perfect.

The dealer will most likely refuse to perform suspension diagnostics at no charge since non OEM springs are in the picture.

Best case: reinstall OEM springs, have the dealer service the faulty part under warranty, and then reinstall Dinan springs.

If I recall correctly, some dealers install Dinan parts and therefore provide a separate warranty.

Are you sure anything is seriously wrong? Could simply be the plastic liner is out of place. Been known to happen.

Other users are saying your mods don't rub with OEM wheel/tire setups. BTW, the damper (shock) does not control the ride height (good or leaking), the spring does that? Also if it is too low on the front corner you'd see it.

What else could be out unless the installer has damaged the suspension? If so, that is not BMW's responsibility, it is the installer.

Thanks. I see what your saying. I did bring the car to the installer today. We checked where it’s rubbing and confirmed it’s in the fender liner toward the bottom where the felt material is not the plastic (see below). We played around with the felt liner by pushing it in and seemed to have fixed the issue. However, I am still a bit concerned b/c he confirmed also that the drivers side is 1/6in lower than the passenger’s. He mentioned it could be by design and he’s seen many car that are lower on one side. I may bring the car to my service guy at bmw to double check. For now though, rubbing has gone away.

You will probably need to replace the fender liner. Someone at some spoint messed it up and if it's rubbing like that all the time eventually the liner will be warped.
