How Do You Play Your Music?
Do you play your music through a thumb drive via usb-c or car play, especially with the frequent disconnect issues that I have heard from a number of owners here?

I have my flac/wav songs stored on a usb which is plugged into the usb port. The only minor issue is that the car does not remember what song I was listening to last. It always go to the first song when I start the car. No other issues so far.

I use my phone which is always plugged into a charger. Works great, and I can use Siri to start a playlist while I’m driving.

I use all of below on various occasions:
- radio - SiriusXM - tiny USB flash drive with MP3s plugged into the front console USB (pic below, purchased based on recommendation of someone here) - non-CarPlay BT streaming from iPhone 8 iOS 12.3.1 with zero drops ever (on iPhone, I mostly use Spotify, but sometime YouTube Music, SiriusXM app, others) - internal X5 storage (about 20GB free) What I definitely do not use and never will: - wireless CarPlay, fully disabled on X5 and iPhone - wired CarPlay (that apparently isn't supported) and wired iPhone "iPod" functionality; this is why I have the USB flash drive plugged into the front console — to prevent me or passenger from accidentally plugging into that and making a mess I will probably simplify later. For example, SiriusXM seems unnecessary with all the rest.

CarPlay with Apple Music - it's working fine so far, and most important of all, the audio quality sounds great, much better than BlueTooth connection (make sure you turn on "High Quality Streaming" under Settings->Music->Cellular Data).

For every day use; CarPlay and Apple Music. It has some connection issues every once in a while but easy to fix by just resetting iDrive (hold volume button for 10+ seconds). Wireless CarPlay has ALAC (Apple's lossless codec) transfer and much superior to bluetooth streaming via iPhones. I have the B&W system and its a blast. I experimented with hi-res audio using the B&W system and my high-end Westone headphones, but honestly don't find its worth the book keeping of music files. Apple music is just too convenient and streams at 256kbps AAC, which is comparable to a 320kbps MP3; that is near CD quality if not equal.
