Pre-sept E90 with new update, still no MP3 playback
I just got my car back yesterday. It's a pre-september, and I just got the software updated. However, MP3 discs still won't play with iDrive!
Anyone else? I've used high quality discs--it plays in my home DVD player, but not in the car. It's kind of a bummer |

You have to have the CIP 20 as well as an additional MP3 update. My car sat at the dealer for an additional day to complete the entire upgrade.

Well, thanks for the info, doc!
Man I wish someone (BMW NA or the dealer) would send out some kind of letter informing people of this. I figured I'd get the update and that would be it--it would work. I guess I should have known better... |

Mine had to be done twice. The first time was for the CIP 20.0 update, and the second time was to get the MP3 actullay working ... which was a bit dissapointing cause all I wanted was MP3 - all the other stuff worked and still does.
These dealers really haven't got the hang of software maintenance have they

I have heard some people mention not having MP3 play back is something to do with the CD Changer and will not get solved getting a software update.

Every single CD player on this planet can read digital data - no exceptions. Whether that data is an .MP3 file or .WAV is up to the software to decifer and interpret accordingly. If you are being told it is a problem with your hardware, then it's just your dealership trying to weasel you for money or they just can't be bothered helping you (it costs them time and money to install the software). The other possibility is they just don't know what they are doing.
Being a software engineer with 15+ years epxerience I can tell you there is 0% doubt about what I am saying here. My dealership tried to tell me the same, I then reminded them about my qualifications ... they quickly changed their attitude, rang up head office, and got the info they needed to install the software upgrade. BMW dealerships are having to rapidly deal with the fact that modern day cars require a level of software expertise they have not been used to dealing with before, and it's us poor customers that are having to suffer ...
