Has anyone done the exhaust mod flap?

Is the exhaust mod flap from the F30 generation still possible? Where you unplug the connector to keep the flap open permanently.

Can anyone confirm that exhaust flaps can be left open, connector disconnected and it does not throw a code. Is exhaust louder?

Same here. I leave it in comfort with passengers usually.

What exactly did you do and when you say "no problems" does it throw codes or not?

Thx.

Gents - historically this has not thrown a code ever.

Make sure your flap is open and unplug the flap module plug - the flap will stay open

If by chance you throw a code - simply plug it back in (but I don't think this will happen)

I agree.

Is the plug located under the car by the exhaust or somewhere else? I recall on my E92, it was located in the trunk.

The flap and plug are located between the muffler and the exhaust tips / it's one of those finicky BMW plastic plugs that can be a bit confusing at first but once you figure it out is very easy.

Here is an example - this is not the exact M340 muffler but this will give you a good visual for reference

Great picture for reference however I think the newer BMWs have the valve on the right side.

I was thinking about doing the mod before picking up the car. I've done it on day 1 of my F30 340i but I think the M340i with the M Performance Exhaust is loud enough as is lol

OK, I finally got a chance to do this today.

Plug is on the passenger side.

Here is what I did:

1. Warm the car up
2. Put it in sport plus mode and wait until exhaust flap opens.
3. Unplug the electrical connector.
4. Turn the car off
5. Clean both connectors (male & female) and cover them up by using electrical type to protect them from the elements
6. Zip tie the loose cable to exhaust hanger while making sure its away from any exhaust heat.

I can confirm that it does NOT throw any codes (or at least it didn't so far)

I am looking forward to having both sides of the exhaust functioning especially on cold winter mornings as well as the Sport + tone on regular driving.

Highly recommended.

Silly question but what difference is this over putting your car in sport mode or individual (if all you want is the sound)?

This way, I believe you can separate the sound from the throttle response.

Note:
When you take your car in for service - remind your SA to ask the tech to NOT plug it back in. Tied back, hidden, or otherwise I've had mine plugged back in several times over the years. Granted it's simple enough to unplug it again but just an FYI...

Whose got time for that in each start up? Turing off ASS already bugs me enough (cant wait to get this thing coded)

I want the loud tone in comfort mode and want everything in Sport + mode when I need to use Sport Individual.

This mod completely eliminated my need for MPE and tone is just excellent with regular throttle.

This is a mod that goes all the way back to E46 days and the purpose of this thread is to document how its done.
