2020 X3M competition which Idrive system will I get with an allocation order?

I'm totally confused and need some help on which Idrive system I will get. Ive asked a few dealerships and get different answers. Can anyone tell me if I order an X3m competition now if I will get the old Idrive 6 or the new Idrive 7 with live cockpit and how can I verify which I will get. All the X3m's I see on dealership lots or on YouTube reviews have the older Idrive 6 without live cockpit. Baffles me why Bmw wouldn't release the Idrive 7 now on the first batch of X3m's already on the lots and wait.

I share your confusion. In noushy's thread, onfireX5 and beammeupscottie are indicating they think iD7 will be on their week 32 and 36 builds. I've been told by Genius they have no indication of iD7 for the X3M series yet, and I think barathon and/or others indicate not until March 2020.

We're holding off ordering until we at least know when the next SOP officially begins. As the G01 X3 M40i supposedly is 1 Sep when the lower-powered models are 1 Aug, perhaps the X3M is waiting until September?

It wouldn't be that difficult for BMW to offer some clarification as surely someone at Corporate knows.

My SA confirmed today that my Aug 5 build is ID7. Doesn’t matter to me as ID6 in my M5 is killer.

I got my info from BMW Genius...they read off ID7 live cockpit when going over the build details/options...but I don't care; either is fine. I like ID6 also....my build is week 36 end of August and done first week of September supposedly...

I have a week 37 build X4M Comp and was told it will have iDrive 7. Did not inquire about the live cockpit and the nav in the driver screen. Not sure I completely trust my sales rep so I plan on getting a further clarification. All the online BMW brochures state iDrive 6 in the X3M and X4M cars so not sure who to believe. Will dig further for everyone and post results.

I'm thinking it'll be ID7 software update but the current gauges for the "live cockpit" application....even though Genius says ID7 w/live cockpit. Clearly some who are advising us all is confused.

Attached is an email I just received from BMW Corp Genius services. Not such a good outcome for those of us awaiting ID7 for new builds.

Here is a further update to the ID6 and ID7 info. Certainly not encouraging news.

Huge disappointment! BMW really shit their pants on not having the idrive7 in the 2020 x3m along with no all season tire option.

Works fine for me. Not a fan of the next-gen live cockpit. ID6 works well. Gives me something to gripe about and ask for a discount over. lol

It’s not all that...

Has any M Car/SAV ever had an all season tire option? That’s not really the point of an M car. If you want max performance, you need max tire (and a set of winter wheels/tires if you live somewhere that has winter).

ID6 is great, some argue better than ID7. I played with ID7 when I was looking at the new X5 50i. It was ok, but not great. Bleeding edge tech is good for about 5 minutes. For “live cockpit”, I can tell you that my wife has the latest version Q7, and the stuff in the dash is neat in the dealer lot, but when driving, I put the middle screen down and look at the HUD.

ID6 has a great HUD! :-)

Cheers,

J

They'll never put an all season tire option on an M car since it deletes option 840 and drops the speed limiter to 130 mph.

I understand that some people may want that option, but never do it from the factory where it neuters the vehicle from the get go.

I am disappointed Bmw wont let you drop to the 20's with the competition package so you can put staggered all season tires on rather than switch out an entire rim and tire package for us with winters. When I go to tire rack there are more all season options for my M4 than the X3MC. I'm fairly certain more people are going to track an M4 over an X3MC.

I plan to use Pilot Sport A/S 3+ year round if I can get them in the correct non comp size. I've seen certain pics with the XL rating on the comp 21s.

Can anyone who knows more about tires than me say if we need the XL ratings?

That is correct. It has been known that only regular x3s are getting tech update as of August 19 bu the Ms are left behind with old tech for some weird reason.

Makes the new 2020 x3 M40 a really nice proposition.

- new upgraded engine to 382 HP (feels more like 400 in the new M340)
- New tech with live cockpit
- Limited slip available
- more comfortable ride
- lighter

You would think Michelin would start producing a set in the x3m comp sizes... would also be applicable to regular x3 m40i with 21s (wheel widths are different but within the range for the tire)

I'm sure M5 and X3M are left behind with ID6 so that the M8 launch is the flagship M tech. In a year I bet they will align all the M cars to ID7 and the M8 tech. I don't think this is a reason to wait if you're ready to buy now though.

And whats all this clucking about all season tires? Bleh.
