HUD - Warning Signs

I have noticed a flashing red car between two lines from time to time in my HUD. I can't find it in the manual. Does anyone know what it means.

Is it the lane departure warning?

That is the 'Frontal Collision Warning' in action. The car thinks you are approaching a vehicle in front at too fast a speed.

Flashing red car is the front collision warning indicator. The car thinks you are closing too quickly with an obstacle in front of you.

This, you are too close to the car in front of you. To be honest it warns too late in my opinion, if the car in front hits the brakes there is zero chance you’ll be able to avoid crashing.

Thanks guys, now that I know it's name it makes complete sense and looked it up.

AlteBMW there are a couple of rules BMW drivers must abide to:

1. Never, ever use your turn signals. when at war never let your enemy know your next move. also when selling your vehicle the vehicle you can advertise the piece as new.
2. BMW's has the lowest drag coefficient of any production vehicle, combine this with the effects of tailgatting or bumper licking. you will save $0.0212 every 2 years.

ps. most BMW drivers are very responsible. what I find, and I am building the evidence with my dash cam, is that other vehicles have a tendency of intentionally blocking BMWs no matter the road speed or driving style of the BMW driver. I drive a BMW, Toyota and Audi interchangeably, but it is only in the BMW that I find people boxing me in for no good reason. what is that about.

Well, there are reports of automatic braking as well, so it might be close, but still some margin. Brakes are good, right? :-)

But I have notices that I fool myself many times, comparing with the previous ride (F31), that there are more space in front of my bumper than what I think.

But of course I let the ACC keep a good distance to the vehicle in front!

I was driving on a Paris suburban highway the other week in a rented X2, I was talking to a passenger and came over the brow of a hill into stationary traffic and the collision avoidance saved me from an accident. It also spilled my coffee. You win some you lose some.

I love the automatic things in this car, they just keep impressing me. Just the other day I was backing out of a parking lot and the car kept sounding a warning signal. Turned out the camera in the back had picked up an oncoming car at high speed quite far away. Amazing.

And I am still as impressed today when I’m at a stop and the ASS automatically starts the car as soon as the car in front of me starts moving.

This happened to me on the highway and the car abruptly mashed the brakes for 1/2 second...scared the **** out of me! I have since changed a setting (forgot what it was) from early to late and haven't had a problem since. I was coming around a gently curve with a car on the outside and apparently it thought I was going to hit it.
