Exclamation Leaving the country - Out of Lease???

Hey everyone,

There is a very high possibility that I will be leaving the US for good before the end of the year (work related). My car is leased (3yrs starting Dec '07), so I was wondering if there is anything that I can do to get out of the lease without doing any of the following:

1. Paying off my car. I just don't have 45K laying around.

2. Getting my car repossesed by BMW FS, screw up my credit and feel like a delincuent son of a b****. Even though if I leave the US I doubt that I will ever come back due to my non-resident and non-citizen status. Main problem about this option is that it goes COMPLETELY against the way I do things and the way I think.

This might be a stupid question but you guys might know if there is anything that I can do

As always, your feedback is GREATLY appreciated

Thanks!

You can break out of a lease. You will be fined but it's not like you have to pay off the whole car.

No but he has to pay all of the remaining payments on the lease.

Not the whole car but quite a bit of it.

Look into the Web sites such as swapalease.com which help people in your and similar circumstances find someone to take over the lease.

just google lease transfer and you'll have a ton of websites where you can advertise for people to take over your lease... i am breaking my lease because i will be taking delivery of an M3 later this year ... so i am offering an incentive for someone that takes over my lease.

You can go to a dealer and have them give you trade in for it...then use that to pay your payoff and you pay the difference....or list it

BMWFS < USCIS

I'd offer to return the vehicle. If they don't want it, that's their problem. If you're not coming back, what's to worry about with credit history?

Yeah, Normally I'm a STAND UP AND DO THE RIGHT THING kinda guy in every regard. But in this case, seriously it kinda makes sense to just drop it off at the dealership, let em' know why you're doing so. And simply walk away...

No SSN, No Citizen status, No worries... You're breaking a long term rental agreement basically, so it's not as if you are damaging, stealing, or really trying to get something for nothing.

So yeah, Sack up, hand over your keys with an apology and call it good in this case.

1, Have someone take over the lease.
2, Sell it at Private Party.
3, Come up with some cash and offer that to the Stealer.
4, Like he said.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH for all the great advice guys!!!!!!!!!!!

I will try as much as I can to do the lease takeover thing and if doesn't work then I guess I will just have to drop it off at the dealer.

I really appreciate all the advise. Thanks again!

Just sell the car or transfer the lease. I think you posted this because you have integrity and if you left, even though you will never come back it will bother you for sometime.

If I was you, I would try my best to get rid of a car in a legitimate manner (swapping the lease, paying the dealer fee, etc.). You mentioned that you're leaving the country for good due to work; however, how do you really know it's forever? Jobs come and go. I mean, unless you're an international man of mystery or something like that, how do you know that you won't be back in a year? You don't want to get into a credit mess thinking that you'll be gone FOREVER only to come back and not be able to get financing on another car.

I agree with you 100%. The only thing is that if I do end up leaving it is going to be for AT LEAST 3-4 years and due to my non-resident and non-citizen status, coming back will be EXTREMELY difficult.

I would contact the company and ask. I have friends that have left for work related reasons for 6mo-1years and the companies have let them out of the lease. They actually came and picked up the car too which made the return that much easier.
