Silly question

Hello! I have a question.. i have a
2017 320 with 18 wheels, the current tires are 225/40/18 I have a chance to get some 225/40/18 for the front and
255/40/18 for the rear, will this work? I could also get some 235/40/18 for the front for about the same price... please advise
Thank you!

Try posting over in the wheels, tires, suspension section. Those guys are geniuses with these kinds of questions.

you need 8.5" wide wheels for 255 tires to fit properly... 235's in the front and 255's in the rear might be out of the allowable range for the drivetrain if you have xdrive... no biggy if just rear wheel drive...

OE tire sizes should've been 225/45/18. I had the same 397 stock wheels on my Sportline. They are 18x8. Ran 245/40/18 square without issue, any bigger is beyond the recommended width range for 8" wide wheels.

Currently running 245/40/18. 2014 F32 xDrive. Any larger and you will have rubbing issues when turning from lock to lock.

How do you like it? I'm afraid it will look too wide and small? Do you have a picture of your car? Thanks and sorry to bother

This is your best bet for a square setup. 235/40 is a good option too.

Just be aware, when you don't run the same diameter square you will ruin your transfer box on an XDrive. We have quite a few cases here in Germany, where BMW did not pay in the warranty period just because the tires were not up to their specs. Even not having the * on the sidewal made them pull out...

Currently running 255/40/18 MPSS on 18x8.5 ET38 all around on '16 F32 xDrive, no rubbing whatsoever, also MPSS runs a bit wider than usual. I asked a few members before going for it, even they never had any issues.

OP's front wheels are 18x8 et32. So not only are they too skinny for 255 tires but they will poke 8mm farther than yours do. It's not the same setup.

Yes, on 8" wide wheel 255 won't work, 245 will be the max width for that. Also I think 397 has ET34? I was replying to another member, I thought he mean 255 causes rubbing issues.

Go 235/45/18 square. It fills the wheel well gap quite nicely.
