335i owners: Anyone own an '07 (or early '08) with under 15k miles?
I'm starting this topic for two reasons:
1. As a WARNING to 335i owners who may not be aware that their next repair or even 15k mile service could degrade the way their car drives. 2. To ask owners of such vehicles to post here and let us know your location, if you are interested in helping us solve this problem. If you have not seen it already, there is a mammoth thread about the "29.2" software update, which YOU might get the next time BMW services your car. For many people, this software introduces the aggravating feeling of turbo lag, and almost nobody is having any luck in getting it fixed. There's more to it than this, but basically if you have a car built and delivered TO YOU before March '08 that has never been serviced, then you probably don't have the 29.2 problem [yet]. If you are interested in feeling the lag before your car catches it, and/or hopefully in cooperating with a local 29.2 sufferer to help fix the problem, then please post here. TIA! |

All I can say that this is a good opportunity to do your maintenance. I have 07 car. It has never been to the dealer, it has 15 miles now. I do my own oil changes which in retrospect cost me $50 but I can do it at the comfort of my own home. The 15K service is total BS, and the 30K service is something that most people can do themselves. So unless something horrible happens to the car it will not have dealer mechanics fiddling with it, which is nice because I love my pre 29.2 software
Good luck to those with a 29.2 flash, I am sure eventually this will get resolved, seems like there are A LOT of complaints.

Mine was built in Feb 2008 but I bought it on July 31st. I only have about 900miles on the odo right now. Do you guys think I have the pre or post software?

However, you can read all about the different clues in the other thread. Basically, at 2k RPM, if you can almost count to 2 between the time you floor the gas pedal and the time the extra boost kicks in, then it's very possible you have The Lag. This would be for 6MT only, or manual mode automatic, although the automatic drives a little differently than the 6MT, even in M mode. |

Also, to all, when you post here, please post your general geographic location, if you don't mind. Or, if you don't want to publicize your location, look in the Check-In Thread for someone near you and PM them to see if they would like to compare your cars. Bluescoupe, I checked for you, and unfortunately it doesn't look like we have any 29.2 sufferers from Florida yet. |

I'm pre 29.2 and will soon be going in for the annual oil change...
Couldn't i just request/demand that the car is running perfectly and to not upgrade the program???? |

Correct me if I'm wrong but, aren't they only reflashing cars if they are having an issue with something that could be fixed by a Progman update? As in if you are going in for routine service you are probably fine. Or has that changed and they are now to flash all cars with this updated software as a preventative step for fuel pump and wastegate issues?
I had mine in two weeks ago for something non software driven to be fixed and didn't receive any software updates. We definitely do not want to spread undo paranoia. I know...I know, what will use the internet for now...I guess it's only for porn and shopping again. |

Nope...I had a headlight out and decided to stop by the dealership after work. They called and said they needed to keep the car for the night. This was several weeks ago right when I got the car and had no idea this forum board even existed. Needless to say when I picked my car up they told me they upgraded the software as this is standard BMW policy. So, be careful out there. Oh and btw my car sucks now!!! |

I really wish I could try out a v29.2 car, I guess I could go test drive a 335i at the dealer right?

I've had my car since 10/07 and do not have the 29.2 patch. I will probably am heading in for my 15k service at the end of the year. I've been to BMW service twice for separate issues and have stated that no ECU updates are to be performed and so far they have complied. I am here in LA so ask away if you have any questions.

i've an 07 with 7500 miles.. I'm pretty sure my car doesn't have 29.2 but is keeping my eyes out for it since everyone hates it.
i'm thinking about just asking the SA to make sure they DO NOT update any type of software on my car when i do take it in for service. I'm in Northern VA. can i just test drive an 08 and see how it feels diff? I'm assuming all the new cars have the new software update right? |

Just because you take your car in for the 15K miles doesn't mean they're going to upgrade your computer.
I went in back in April and they didn't upgrade mine, just the oil change and whatever. |

Is there any way to tell which software you have on the car?
I have a 10/06 built car (in florida) which I bought 2 months back. I took it to dealer about a month back for oil change and fuel pump recall. I don't see anything about the software update but I will double check. what should it say on your service statement, do I have to look for something specific. Unfortunately I going to the dealer again tomorrow for some minor issues and I will make sure to tell him not to update the software. Can the service advisor check what software is on the car? Thanks Last edited by munu; 08-20-2008 at 02:48 PM.. |

does this lag only affect stock cars?
is it noticeable if V3 is installed? i have never been in for service since my pickup in january... so i dont have 29.2 or V81. does V3 or any other piggyback/flash nullify the lag? |

All bmw's with the N54 motor will eventually be updated with the new software. There is an SIB to reflash the cars to recalibrate (to the most current progman) the oil sensor with production ranges from late 06 through april of 08 ish. Mine will be updated anyways since my 335 will be going in for the wastgate repair and the reflash is mandatory.
